No I think i know what this is - as it was the line i was arguing (not on bbc from memory but mirror, express, itn, irn & teletext - so it may be that)
It was something like "BT getting rid of its standard line rental and forcing cutsomers up to BT Together is effectively a fine for those using other companies for calls. They get no benefit from the new package, yet still have to pay for it - as BT line rental is a must. THis is BT's way of increasing the tariff for its competitors, while looking like it is reducing its own prices."

Yes that makes sense. "effectively a fine" was the original, and I suppose Chinese whispers could easily have changed it to what stephidoo thought was said.

Anyway, I've ordered one of the Orchid diallers - should be here tomorrow. It looks much better than the Inventeer one.
Totally programmable via a web interface, with up to 9 carrier codes, time of day routing, automatic insertion of local area code, etc.
FANTASTIC!! ;D ;D ;D
Wow that box is the answer to many a 'phone' money savers prayers, its fantastic. I am going to get one!0 -
If you didnt get the registration email - ring 0808 170 1899 from the phone you registered and it will tell you your registration/customer number for 1899
If it doesn't, you will have to reregister.
Also see http://www.1899.com/customercare.php?act=question&aid=2
18866 has a similar number - its 0808 170 1708

Sunil
Sunil, thanks for info. That is the number I've been trying without any luck.
My concern was "what's happened with the information I'd already given them i.e.visa card number etc" in my original registration. Where has it gone? 18899 don't have a clear answer in the Q&A for that. I don't know if I want to register with them again, if this is how they treat their customers. >:(
Also I read about people mentioning Onetel - I had been with them for a few years until they sent me a letter confirm that all my calls would automatically go through them as a loyal customer and that I didn't need to do anything.
I got a shock when the phone bill came because Onetel didn't stick to their word and calls ended up going through BT instead and all they offered me was £10 off as a gesture of good will. It had cost me more like £120+ for the quarterly bill when my international calls unknowingly still went through BT. I shall never use Onetel again!

Thanks everyone for this original post and the following discussion.
I've cancelled my Talk Unlimited Package and am going to try 18866 for all landline calls now too (already use them for US calls). By my calculations, I should be able to cut my phone bill by roughly a further 40%.
Excellent moneysaving tip."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

Everybody seems to be raving about the cost of these calls and rightly so, however, aren't any of you curious as to how the price of phone calls in this country are being significantly reduced overtime.
It can't just be competition.
Compression technology? are they using VOIP mixed up with PSTN or something? confused.
And why oh why is it the same price to ring Chilean mobile as it is to ring Portuguese ones. Does distance have zero significance in the telecoms market?
imo the future is SIP anyway, well I thought that as it makes free calls and geographical numbers redundent but now it seems even the cost of using SIP - 0p is insignifcant but definately the way forward for developing countries.
Is this 'telecoms revolution?' just happening in the UK? If not why is it happening here and not happening in other specfic locations? Portugal for example.Charles J0
