Niteowl you got further than I did >:(. I was registered with 1899 a while back but they cancelled my Maestro card 8 days before the actual expiry date
. Despite updating my account details with the new card I've not had any email with my account number. Had no problems with 18866 though :-/
I'll check 1899 in the morning and if nothing I'll email them and see what happens.0 -
Hi All,
Ok I going to give my 2 cents worth here – I work in the business telecom,s market and their is a massive dog fight going on in business and residential user markets.
The fact is there are only 6 or so “ Tier 1 Carriers” that can get calls A – B and what there 300+ plus telecoms companies offer “headline rates” but they make profits by : Connection fee,s – Per minute billing – Rounding up to the nearest penny – minimum call charges – Charge for not paying by DD / send copy invoices / 12 , 24 months contracts out etc etc.
Myself I, am an NTL customer and paying 3p day – 2p evening and weekend 1p at weekend and 4.99p connection fee they are raking it in ( why do you think they package the phone for free in the cable TV packages because they make more money ).That I know because I use to work for them
So like the rest of you savers NTL – Telewest customers I made the switch to 18866 and I, am happy as a pig in brown stuff especially with today’s announcement, but the catch being the price raise that’s were they will make money as people cant be bothered with the hassle of trying to find the destination number’s of an 0845 / 0870 number.
(OH Cable customers the way i get round the long access code number is program a "speed dial"in your home phone like when you press "9" to get an outside line at work. That way the phone does the work so you dont have to eh not bad )
I believe companies like – One Tel: / Talk Talk ( which to me looks like a standard BT plan but with 10% off the prices and free calls to each other ) They know that people don’t spend as much time on land lines as people use there mobiles and dial 0845 / 0870 on there land line ( unless you have an 02 plan ) to phone banks building society’s. So while they sell these deals ( free calls evening and weekend ) they know that they are not going to lose or they hide costs as above mentioned. The people that do win on these deals are people that use different carriers with the better rates like using the best of 18866 / 18899 or start using voice over IP using a broad band connection.
Keep these deals coming but keep on eye on the small print
Hope this has some useful facts ::)

I have treid to register with both 18866 & 1899 I have not received any confirmation from either. Last night I tried using 1899 and it worked so I now wait to see how I can access the website when my bill is due. Any others had similar problems. ???Named after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -

If you didnt get the registration email - ring 0808 170 1899 from the phone you registered and it will tell you your registration/customer number for 1899
If it doesn't, you will have to reregister.
Also see http://www.1899.com/customercare.php?act=question&aid=2
18866 has a similar number - its 0808 170 1708

Does anyone know the exact amount T-Mobile charge to ring the 0808 number for 18866? On Pay as you go mind you.
I tried ringing it, and then seeing my balance afterwards, and it came to 10p. When I actually went all the way to actually making a call to my house phone as a test it came to slightly more, can't remember how much, maybe 15p.
I'm not really familiar with the pay as you go tarrif I'm on as I only recently moved over from contract, I know it sounds somewhat ignorant.
But I'd probably only be using the 18866 service to phone landlines as it'll come to only around 15p totaly charge. And maybe mobiles on the weekend.
15p to ring 0808 + 1p connection + 10 odd minutes = 35p
It's usually 35p just to call a mobile for one minute normally is it not?
Help me out here, I'm new to pay as you go and 18866.

I've been with Call 18866 for sometime now, phoning Philippines mainly, as they are extremely cheap. I've recently changed my CPS to Toucan Telecom. Their website is:

I'm with the £9.99 deal for 24/7 unlimited calls. I'm not sure whether to cancel this and just stick with 18866.0 -
Unless you use the phone a lot to call through the day you would probably be better signing for Onetel (for free UK calls at the weekend) or TalkTalk (for free UK calls evenings and weekends) and use 18866 for calls through the day.
I use a combination of TalkTalk (now, was Onetel) and use 18866 for International (NZ 1p minute) and calls through the day.
Personally I haven't bothered signing with 1899 as they are dearer for NZ and I have a sticky on the phone saying "always dial 18866 before 6.00pm and if calling a mobile!"
And yes 1899 is now cheaper for mobiles but when a 13 year wants to use the phone, she wants to use it NOW and not after I have interegated her as to which number she is calling, lol. She was quite delighted yesterday to hear the lady from 18866 tell her she was making a free call
I for one am "jumping with joy" at having 12 months of cheaper telephone bills and will happily change when a better deal comes along

Can anyone suggest a way of getting cheaper line rental than rip off BT and still use 18866 for the cheap calls. Cable is not available in my area, but even if it was there would still be an excessive line rental, and we do seem to have to have a BT line to use all these cheap call rate companies. So anyone know how to get cheaper line rental?

At the moment there is no way to have cheaper line rental and still use 18866 etc without breaking T&C's
