Yes I had a letter yesterday and some leaflets to give to friends & family. it did say 3p connection charge. it also said weekend calls to mobiles are 4p per minute Last time I used them a few weeks age they were 2p at weekends, but it did say 3p on their wbsite last week. so who knows
  • As call18866 is a paperless system, that's a strange statement to make.

I too got some welcome info. from 18866 yesterday ( only been with them 10 months or so. It consisted of a letter dated 2/11 and five flyers (is the plural of flyer flyers :))detailing prices - quite a few prices seem to be out of synch with their website. Seems to me that their prices change so rapidly that they can't keep up to date.

Re: AOL blocking 1866 as spam.
Not for me since I complained to AOL.
However, given recent scares on viruses I can understand this as their invoice does look rather spam-like!

  • hi there can someone help me out here,i am a wee bit confused to this 18866 website.
it states this is a free service so i was wondering why they need card details from you.

  • I presume 18866 mean free service in that you don't pay a monthly amount but you do have to pay for the calls you make as the calls don't go through BT and on to your account with them.

You get a monthly bill from 18866 or if you don't make many calls in a month the amount will be carried forward to the following month.

Calls to UK nos are free but subject to a 1p (or possibly now 3p) connection charge per call. Also once you subscribe you can make overseas calls which are not free. Hence they need to be able to collect money from you for any calls you make.

I have just received a letter from 18866 (along with five flyers) signed by Darren Thomas, and the bottom line states " All calls via 18866 are subject to a 3p connection fee" the letter is dated 2nd November 2004, yet on checking my account, all calls up to and including yestaeday are charged at 1p connection fee.

On the "fliers" amongst the total call rates, are

    UK local rate: 0
    UK national rate 0
    UK mobiles (peak) 14
    UK mobiles (weekends) 4

    Yet the site states

    1p connection
    Mobiles: peak 12p per min
    " weekends 3p per min
So it looks like the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition

In view of these 'huge' increases does this mean we should register with 1899 or has somone found an alternative 'cheapie ?
  • I've just received the leaflets as well, but my leaflets state calls subject to 1p connection charge. Perhaps they just decided to use up a load of old leaflets first?
  • i've also had the 3p connection charge letter. whichever is correct it is still cheaper than b.t. (what do YOU think b.t. stands for?) ;D
