Hi Sunil - looks like we frequent the same boards eh?
Anyway, I've ordered one of the Orchid diallers - should be here tomorrow. It looks much better than the Inventeer one.
Totally programmable via a web interface, with up to 9 carrier codes, time of day routing, automatic insertion of local area code, etc.
FANTASTIC!!
Is it really that difficult just to dial a short number, because in buying that box you've significantly increased the cost of the calls.Charles J0 -

Environmon2, ah yes, but if you have a number of different pre-fixes (service providers) depending on the time of day and number dialled etc, being able to apply the correct pre-fix without having to think about it is quite useful. As a previous poster pointed out, having a youngster in the house who wants to make a call *now* without figuring out which pre-fix to use is likely to save money.
From my perspective the Orchid box also allows you to bar numbers so, again, with a youngster in the house I can bar premium rate numbers and not loose any sleep over the use of the phone.
Circumstances define the aspects that are important to oneself - sounds really pretentious so I'll go now :-)

You know, they're really not that hard to make

There's definately a business opportunity here for cheapo boxes that just do the predials.Charles J0 -

I totally agree. Please see my earlier post here: http://forum.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=Telephone;action=display;num=1088476971;start=2#2
about using the DBTel DB3 phone to get round this problem.
PS. I have no connection with DBTel, just a very satisfied customer with their product which exactly fulfills my telephone dialling requirements.0 -
Some advice please, I am with onetel total talk plan (£10.99) P.M and would like to start using the 18866 1p instead, if I downgrade my onetel plan to the basic free package, can I simply dial 18866 then the number, or do I have to dial an exit number to get out of the onetel carrier first ?
Thanks0 -
If you have CPS to onetel you just need to dial 18866.0

I programmed my free (phones4u) Binatone E3300 to dial 18866 before the stored numbers.0

Hi all - this is a great thread.
Have signed up for 18866 and whoo-hoo hour-long cals for 1p!
One question. I am on telewest, and have to dial the longer 0808 access number.
Is it possible to program a complete number into my dect phone? I have tried it with access number + number to dial + hash and it doesn't seem to work.
Do you need to use 'pauses' or something? How would this work?
Thanks guys

imo the future is SIP anyway, well I thought that as it makes free calls and geographical numbers redundent but now it seems even the cost of using SIP - 0p is insignifcant but definately the way forward for developing countries.
I agree.
Did you know that from next month (IIRC) BT are being forced (OfCom?) to NOT charge line rental to those who only want their line for broadband? That means you can use your mobile phone for voice calls, and your landline for data only for the Internet - AND VOIP.
So, from next month there IS a way to avoid paying line rental - convert to VOIP. There are VOIP converters so you can use your existing landline phones (for about £100), then you have no line rental, just the call costs to Gossiptel. These call costs are not as cheap as 18866 etc, but seeing as you're saving your line rental every month, you'll still be better off. Oh, and of course all calls to any other VOIP phone anywhere in the world are ABSOLUTELY FREE.
And you will soon be able to take your existing phone number with you (you have to get an 0870 one at the mo).
One downside - you can't call 999. That's what your mobile's for !!! ;DNamed after my cat, picture coming shortly0 -

You do realise that you will be still charged "line rental" if you have ADSL?
It will just be bundled into your broadband charge - BT just wont bill for it seperately.. i.e. no cost saving
