I've watched after relatives children on weekends before and whilst they have given me money for expenses and emergencies, I've never taken the !!!! with it. They might have expected me to, but I wouldn't because it's just rude to do that with someone else's money.
Not according to my MIL. :-(0 -
Have you or your wife addressed any of this ill feeling with your MIL yet? Until you do this kind of resentment will build and cause further problems. I think you are actually completely justified in being annoyed OP.
I have babysat over a long weekend for my brother before now. Again he left money to use to take my nephew out and about and for food etc. Told us to have a fab time and use the lot. It wasn't an excessive amount but plenty and he got change.
There is always emergency money left in his house too. Though it is kept in his safe. I was advised if there was an emergency to phone him and he would let me know who I should contact. They are insured to the hilt etc but some things he would just use mates to sort things out. He would have let me know the combination to the safe and then altered it when he returned home. Not that he couldn't trust me, its just common sense isn't it.
May be something to consider if you ever think of asking MIL to help again, though I guess that's unlikely. Even she would be hard pressed to whip more out of the safe than was needed hey.0 -
Can I borrow you MIL - I can't remember the last time me and OH had a weekend on our own, I would gladly pay 100 quid for the chance;)0

[quote=[Deleted User];46366981]Like I said before it works both ways with families. Should my wife insist that she pays her if she takes her out shopping then? By your rationale this is the case.

Only if your MIL is not legally allowed to be left in a shop on her own without the social work coming round....Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Paul, may I ask what you actually want from this post? Everyone to say "oh poor you?"
In which case you would be better asking your mates.Debt free 4th April 2007.

I think I need to put the beer in the safe too...0 -
I was with you until you said the amount was £100. I was thinking of a much larger amount than that. As for the cat - yes it's unfortunate, but these things happen. I remember that at school we had a class hamster, which was taken home each weekend by a different child. Naturally the hamster got old, and one weekend he died at a child's house - and I don't remember anybody claiming that they should have taken him to a vet or be blamed in any way.0
