  • OP, I'd feel the same if i was in your shoes.
I wouldn't like it if my siblings were treated differently to myself and vice versa.
I personally believe that family should be treated equally, and one shouldn't be given something without the other.
If i ever had children, I could never give one more than the other, regardless to if it was something they wanted that cost less than the other's present.

My thoughts exactly, I've neve come across such an petulant, argumentative, judgemental and self-contradictory adult so it's either a wind up, or I've been extremely lucky in not having met this type before.

You don't actually know me, you've just read some posts I've made on a particular subject. Where have I contradicted myself, exactly?

FWIW I'm now better off than I have been most of my life, like the OP's Mum through an illness, and if my mature student son needs money (don't they always?) I send him some. I also give my hardworking daughter the same amount whether she needs it or not, I wouldn't dream of treating them differently and they know it.

Good for you. Have a pat on the back. The point of this thread is that other parents clearly don't feel the same.

On the other hand I take my youngest granddaughter on holiday when I can, because her older siblings have grandparents of their own who spend money on them.

I don't quite get that! Do you differentiate between blood relatives and their step-siblings?

    1. On two occasions. If you read back you'll see for yourself.

    2. I do beg your pardon, didn't realise I couldn't state my own situation, as others have

    3. They are all three my blood relatives. Her siblings are taken on holiday by their grandparents. I take her.

Then don't attribute them to me!

never did stop being so direct and abrupt.

One of them was you enjoyed the hol and the other was you would not have chosen to go there it was kind of given to you so you took it?

No, you didn't, did you. (I don't think you meant what your lack of punctuation implied).

Your definition of 'OP' must be different to mine then.

Maybe if your sister has a more wealthy lifestyle than you your parents think they have to give gifts appropriate to their level of lifestyle.
Someone close to me does this. The wealthier the individual, the more expensive present they will receive, ie. gold, cashmere jumpers, hampers, etc. whereas the poorer individual will get a less expensive present.

That's not a contradiction. There are lots of places I wouldn't choose to go to myself. Doesn't mean I couldn't enjoy it if I found myself there.

So is life in general:D are you now going to pick on a disabled person?

It seems to me you come across as the others have stated because you must somewhere have a notion that you cannot justify your feelings towards this issue.

So you're a grandparent, but you only take one grandchild on holiday because other grandparents take the other 2? Why use "of their own" when you are their grandparent as well?
