samsung galaxy will prove best phone for youportchieboy wrote: »I don't use many minutes or texts at all, but want a phone just to play with the Apps, use the maps, mobile internet etc.....yes, I want a toy!
Usage wise, 100 mins is plenty.
Can't decide on which to go for. I know iphone folk are very protective, but in honesty, are the Android apps ag good?0 -
I love my Galaxy s20

If you are going from Iphone, blackberry etc to an android phone just sync your contacts with google then when you log in to your android phone all of your contacts will sync back to your new phone and you'll be all ready to go.
You can use google sync app for this :T
There are some limitations but its available here if you want to play.
Forgive my ignorance, (i'm a real technophobe sometimes) but I don't have a google account, so can I still transfer my yahoo(personal) and outlook(work) accounts from iPhone to Galaxy without too much hassle?
My point is, although I'm seriously leaning toward the Galaxy as it's available on far cheaper contracts, but I don't want to commit to one and then find I can't use my e-mail accounts on it like i can on the iPhone.0 -

i dont use outlook so cant comment on that but do know that it can be done using some apps which others have mentioned on this forum before.
Yes you can 'transfer' your yahoo account for use on any android phone. You can just load the free yahoomail app from the android market and use it, you get pushmail notifications. Or you can set up you phones (depends on manufacturer) email app that pulls in email from many accounts from different providers. Or you can install many apps like kmail etc that do the same and pull email from many sources. Or you can set up your free gmail account to pull in email from all other accounts and use the free gmail app. see what suits you best.
You can use your android phone as....- a phone
,
- camera,
- video camera of decent quality (i hardly use my proper camera now as i use my android phone most of the time as a camera and video camera as it is more convenient and quality is ok).
- Music player
- video player
- laptop replacement for surfing (but not for other things) when OH is hogging the laptop at home
- desktop replacement at work as i cant be bothered with the long start times of the computers and use my android phone for most things now
- FM radio
- document viewer (word, excel, power point, pdf, csv formats), it can read odt formats as well with free apps
- document editor with paid apps (word, excel, powerpoint)
- i use the phone as an external storage usb device (can use it like usb sticks)
- can explore computer from phone over wifi (and 3g)
- can remotely access your computer with apps like log me in ignition etc
- can watch TV via some apps
- can program your sky box with free app
- can buy train and bus tickets etc with apps
- can access train times and bus times with free apps (google places, train times uk)
- use the kindle app sometimes as an ebook reader
- use amazon apps for purchases and freebies
- use google navigation and maps for free even though i have a tomtom and built in car satnav as i find google navigation to be faster and more accurate than my tomtom. google places is free directory which i find useful
- loads of free and paid apps for my child
- apps are available for downloading youtube videos for offline viewing
- apps are available for offline viewing of websites
- same for tuning your cars engine etc among many other things
- games are good too including some great free games.
- widgets are good too that you wont find on iphone
- phone customisation to your liking is much better on android
- i can connect my htc desire to my archos dock and use it to copy files over so dont need to lug around a laptop to synch files between different gadgets, but i tried it with a friends ipod but even though i can see the files via the archos dock, i cant copy files from an ipod. No such restrictions on android devices as they will connect to almost anything.
there is more, on phones like the galaxy s2- you can use ... usb on the go
- connect to keyboard, usb sticks, powered usb hubs, powered external hard discs,
- direct wifi printing without a computer
- HDMI out via usb, MHL port present so can see contents of phone on tv / projectors etc while charging phone.
- removable battery, removable and expandable external memory cards
- directly transfer files to other phones / computers or cameras via usb, wifi, bluetooth without needing a computer
- act as a wifi hotspot for many devices (including for iphones as my friends with iphones found when they checked out this feature) so no need for MiFi like devices or data dongles
ultimately like many things in life it will depend on what your likes are. so try out the phones with friends (shops viewing is too brief to give a true picture).
I dont own iphones but have used friends and relatives phones and ipods, but having used android htc desire i dont think i would ever buy an iphone. Iphones are nice too but not meant for my tastes. And phones like the htc desire will be beaten hands down by the samsung galaxy s2! so will buy that soon or wait till october when the samsung nexus prime is rumoured to be released with HD screen.bubblesmoney :hello:0 - a phone

the Galaxy IS the best phone on the market, spec's wise. You will also find android much more open than IOS0

Haha! Lol. Only an apple fan could pretend the iphone 4 was better than the samsung galaxy s2. The iphone is inferior on specs, software and contract price (if you considered spending more inferior).0

I have the Galaxy S2 and I'm really happy with it. And there are a lot of games and apps for it. I had the iPhone 3G before and it wasn't really better or worse. I was happy with both of them. I personally like some usability features on the Galaxy more but that's just me.0

On the whole, the S2 hardware spec sheet is better than the iPhone 4 (excluding build quality and materials), the software I'd say tips in Apple's favour, and the price tips in Samsung's favour. So it's probably about equal for now between the two.0 -
I've just got the S2 to replace my written-off HTC Desire HD (6 months old - not amused!!) I dont like the iphone as I dont trust the Apple system and wanted another Android and I must admit I do like this phone - its really easy to use and fast. Unfortunately the handset was replaced after 2 days as it developed a fault but it hasnt put me off.*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Hehe there's something rather ironic about placing more trust in a company whose business model is to snoop through your personal details to target advertising at you0
