Yodel delivery services - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Comments
-
There is no "second attempt" cost to Yodel. They pay the courier only when the goods are delivered and they only pay the one fee. So, the courier could end up taking three attempts to deliver and only getting paid for one attempt. This is the reason why the courier will prefer to leave the parcel in a "safe place," than to take it away and try again. The courier probably only gets paid sixty pence for the parcel. Take into account his costs (petrol, maintenance, insurance, road tax and all the pother costs associated with running a business), he is left with probably about thirty pence. If he has to take three attempts to deliver, he is getting ten pence per visit.
My personal opinion is that, if you have ordered something for delivery, you have the responsibility to either be in, or ensure you have somewhere safe to leave your parcels. It should not be up to the courier to store your goods for you until you decide to receive them.
P.S. You/r is as in the "royal" you/r.
That is true for the self employed, but the majority are still employed(for the next few months at least) so redelivery attempts are an additional cost.
Come June, most employed drivers will be gone though.0 -
Couldn't agree with you more. When tanker drivers are picking up £45K pa (and planning a strike) it's about time delivery drivers had a fairer deal.
I'd happily pay a bit more for a better service, and a better deal for the drivers.
Yodel drivers actually get paid a fair wage imo, better than most in the industryThey also have to deliver a lot more than most companies to get it though, hence the constant rushing and poorer levels of service than some others. This doesn't fit into the new model though as self employed drivers can do it for less overall cost to the business so that's the way the company is going.
With the poor rate self employed drivers get(not much different to what cards in drivers get, yet have to pay their own expenses), I can only see the service deteriorating as they will tailor their level of service to the price they are getting.0 -
Another complaint......
I ordered some books from Scholastic and wasn't given an exact date for delivery (I didn't expect one). Yodel left a card on Tuesday to say that they had called - fair enough, I was out. The card stated that I could call a mobile number for re-delivery, but if I didn't call, they would re-deliver the following day. I opted to stay in on Wednesday for re-delivery. It didn't happen. I tried numerous times to ring the mobile number, but always got a recorded message saying that they were busy on another call, followed by details of Christmas delivery (it's March!) and to leave details for re-delivery. I left details as requested.
Thursday, still nothing, so I rang the 0844 number on the card. I explained that I couldn't be in 07.30-21.00 today and asked if the parcel could be delivered to my mum's house in the next street. No problem, I was told, we will guarantee delivery on Friday.
4.30 and no sign of the delivery. I know that there was still time, but I had a bad feeling, so I rang the 0844 number. After being on hold for twelve minutes, I was told that my parcel number didn't exist. She tried three times, but each time said I had the number wrong - there were too many digits. I told her that the number had been fine the day before. Eventually, she asked me which firm I wanted to contact, so I said Yodel. Her reply - 'we're not Yodel, we're DHL'. I pointed out that the phone number was on the Yodel card, I had rang it the day before and it was Yodel then, and that Yodel and DHL were part of the same company. She insisted that I must have obtained the number from somewhere other than the card, and that DHL are nothing to do with Yodel. I put the phine down and found an alternative number on the internet.
After yet another wait whilst I was on hold, I spoke to a chap who told me that my parcel was sitting in the warehouse and wouldn't be delivered today - what a surprise! He also told me that the delivery address could not be changed. I pointed out that I had been told it could, by Martyn the day before. How I wish I had taken his surname!
Fast forward and I ended up speaking to the manager. I have had to change plans for tomorrow, but have been told that my parcel will definitely be here by 12 noon
I tried to fill in the complaints form on the Yodel website, but it does not allow enough characters. Instead, I have stated that I have a complaint that is too detailed for their system to manage, and requested that they ring me. I don't hold out much hope.
I will ring Scholastic on Monday to let them know of the problems that I have had. I have paid a delivery charge, but would happily have paid more for a decent service.
Just for the record, my house is clearly marked with my housse number (white number on black background, large enough to see clearly from the road). My address is easily recognised by sat-nav systems. Several elderly neighbours were at home, as well as a SAHM, but no attempt was made to leave my parcel with any of them.
ETA: I also tried the online tracking system, several times, but it failed to recognise the tracking number on each occasion.
My ex used to deliver parcels for Securicor (which became DHL and is now Yodel) and he said it was crap then. It still is.0 -

Please correct me if i am wrong but im hearing yodel are losing a million pounds a week.
A city link driver was asking me about driving jobs at ups last week and i felt a bit sorry for him when he told me he was on £7.40ph and had around 110 deliveries on which he didnt think he would get done before close of business, hence the many problems people do not get there goods when they expect them.
Its either quality or quantity.0 -
My Other half was having his camera repaired and was delivered by yodel when they knocked said is mr Parker here I said no he is at work I can sign for it. He said it can only be signed for by mr Parker. I said well he won't be in tomorrow and you can't deliver it to him at work because he is a COURIER. the fact I live in the house he was delivering to didn't matter. So he took the parcel away and on the online tracking it said customer refused delivery. Really????? He had to phone them before they sent it back and give telephone permission to say I could sign for it.
My partner works for dhl and said since they sold yodel he has heard nothing but complaints about them. Why does cling film always stick to itself but never what you want it too???0 -
Ordered a new phone from CPW on Friday and they unfortunately use Yodel as a courier. Next day delivery (even allowing for Easter non-delivery) has turned into almost a week with no sign of my phone and no tracking information on the website. CPW cant even get a straight answer from them (unless they are fobbing me off too). Shower of incompetent idiots! The Daily Mail

Two more completely fouled up Amazon deliveries now. One for me and one for the wife. Each sent separately, and both somehow 'lost' in the system, despite the tracking showing that they reached the local depot a couple of days ago.
Usual crawlingly apologetic emails from Amazon, but nothing ever changes.0 -
I actually have had good service from Yodel over the last 2 days for a delivery from Field and Trek. The tracking was updated regularly (ish) and it arrived when it should have done.
I was utterly amazed, I have to say. Maybe because it was delivered to my work rather than home ? Also the tracking showed "Re-routed to another courier" this morning so maybe that was why it was efficient
I must also say though, that they are normally awful.0 -
Yodel are shockingly poor. I have had 3 bad experiences with them in quick succession.
1) Amazon return - They failed to turn up to collect the items which I was returning to Amazon for a refund
2) Very.co.uk return - They turned up but failed to read the additional instructions with the booking instructing the driver to collect the parcel from the back porch. They left a calling card saying nobody was in to collect the item and to rearrange collection.
3) Homebase delivery - I waited between the hours of 8am and 8pm yesturday on the arranged delivery date for my items. Nobody came. Received a calling card TODAY saying I wasn't in and to rearrange delivery.
Totally shocking service and they must offer really cheap deals to businesses to get awarded the contracts. AVOID AT ALL COSTS !!:hello:v :money:0 -

Then your partner should know that, if the manifest says that only the recipient can sign, then only the recipient can sign. It is not in the courier's purview to change that, it would be on the insistence of the sender.
I have read some experiences regarding couriers, where they have been far from satisfactory, but surely you cannot be complaining that this one has just been doing his job, as he has been told to do it, by the people sending the goods. His professionalism on adhering to the sender's wishes can only be commended, surely. He doesn't get paid extra for going to your address twice. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0
