    Thanks Glad :)

After seeing One Eye's very good suggestion of how we could post ongoing Regs - E: 99/99 (Ongoing) " - then I think that possibly the first question would be to clarify if Ongoing comps should join the others on the Main Board, or remain on the Re Board. We may well find out that we would have no more confusion of where to post and could concentrate on educating people on how to post.

I have had to adapt my comping already to scroll through Reg d/w/m threads that have moved to main already, and could adapt it further as a compromise if it was for the benefit of the board.

While I love the title idea, this is very similar to how it would described up on the Dailys Sticky thread.

Comps forum is very different to most of the other board. Lots of compers would not spot a thread that is bumped, as they are entering comps/using the forum in a different display/search manner, so would not see the default front page, in the small time window that a bumped comp would be showing up on it.

We may have 100s of new comp threads posted every day, so the first page lifespan is very brief for most of them.

I forgot to add that of course there are 1000s and 1000s of comps on the Main board at any one time.

This is why I believe education and co-operation when posting comps, may be the way to go. By using sorting out where and how to post, linking to relevant Stickys and using Title Tags, we could help everyone be able to comp and in the manner that they prefer/or could live with.

By ensuring that all comps are posted, linked and tagged where needed, would mean that everyone could display, enter, search and bookmark in which ever way suits them best.

Despite me not comping that much currently I thought I'd just put my opinion in here for when I come back after my exams

I'd keep IWIWIW and GO but I'd change the regs board, I'd move over all the sticky's from Competition Time over to the regs including compers inn and the discussions and allow it as a sort of FAQ/Chat forum named something along the lines of 'Compers Corner (New users check here)'

I'd then move the Daily, Weekly, Monthly stickies to competition time to stay with the postals and puzzler threads.

Any ongoing comps with no end date I think the suggestion of E: 99/99 would work perfectly.

By keeping the reg threads but moving them to competition time it should catch and please all types of compers as they'll be able to check the threads before starting there usual comping

One day comps can also go in daily's as PCL has already been doing

This way ALL comps are in competition time with everything else in their own forum for the people who want to chat or need help

:A:A That's me done, I'll try and check back and keep an eye on the results :A:A

I like your ideas... they work (have been playing around at http://comp.forumotion.co.uk/f12-competition-forum again to see), as a most stickies will go from the main board... and a few new ones appear. Should end up with 4 stickies and possibly one announcement (for rules on how to conduct oneself on the forum, and possibly mention search? Announcements stay on TOP, above stickies).

However... would it still be possible to keep all comps on the main forum? The Tie Rack one mentioned earlier as an example. Keep it as E: 99/99 on the main, with a bump if someone remembers when it's open (NB: I am not suggesting bumping daily threads where there's nothing new, ie spin the wheel for come cereal... but for a weekly comp that's only running once a week. That's one thread, 51 bumps a year)... and also a copy of the comp in the Daily thread, for those that use the daily???

    EDIT:
Forgot to say... I'd actually prefer it if there was NO weekly/monthly thread/forum... as I'd much rather they'd just get bumped once a week/month... however if they were both on the main (where bumped) and in the week;y/monthly thread that would be ok (as I could just ignore the weekly/monthly threads then).

How does it work now... is a new thread started in the Regular Forum each week/month per comp (sorry... I gave up on the Reg forum yonks ago)?

you've already decided by voting that the regs board is staying for comps with no end date

    Poll Results

You've had the opportunity to vote and the majority verdict is:

All regular comps with end date stay on main board but posters then post link on the regulars board Poll result

the purpose of this discussion is to end confusion on what exactly is a regular comp with end date, so we have a clear guideline on which board a comp gets posted :)

And how often does that not happen? I never check the regular board (had a peek again after things got changed last time... but it was still a confusing mess to me).

But a comp that runs each week (or each month for that matter) does have an end date... it ends weekly (or monthly).

Changed my mind - only a daily thread. No weekly or monthly thread. Weekly and monthly does have an end date (as does daily... but daily would clog up the main forum). I suggest weekly and monthly should be posted in the main forum, with their weekly (so posted each week... *sigh*) and monthly (posted each month... this is have been for all the time) end date.

So... I'd like ALL threads on the main forum, including the dailies (E: 99/99). The dailies however to be linked into the Daily thread. Daily threads not to be bumped, but it gives those that do not use Reg board to see if there's a nice new one and choose to bookmark (it or whatever people chose to do). Weekly comps to be added with weekly end date (GO after a week, new thread in main). Monthly to be added with monthly end date GO after a month, new thread on main).

we all know that peole have lots of different preferences and ways of doing their comping :)

but the purpose of this thread is finding a way to decide how to ask the question of what is an ongoing comp and what is a comp with a definite end date, so that a guidelines can be put up, based on a majority decision

then each comp thread posted will be treated the same according to the guidelines :)

Sorry Mulle, but bumping is not recommended on comps forum and rarely works well. (Except if problem crops up with a comp.)

Myself I bookmark comps I know I can repeat enter, or use the stickys, other compers may run various Title Tag searches...

I am sorry Glad, but I have to disagree.

I apologise for going back to the start, but the impression I got from MSE Andreas last post was that BGs and Compers could finally work out together what may work best for the board :o

Because the original polls were destined in haste, and badly worded, the guidelines that MSE Andrea did try and post often caused more confusion. By trying to please everyone and find a compromise without being a comper, its almost as if Regs clung onto the Ongoing Comps as a reason for it to exist.

This is our chance to validate and sort things out once and for all. I think it was Befffff that recently got questioned for posting an Ongoing comp on the Reg Board.

If we didn't at least discuss and possibly add to a poll One Eyes suggestion of a Title Tag of E:99/99 (Ongoing) I think we would be letting ourselves down. I also feel that compers who may be happy to accept this tag, may then argue that tech even if a comp is ongoing, it does have a weekly/monthly end date every month, so should be on main, iyswim.

The one things that did clearly and yes to my dismay, jump out very clearly to me from the polls was that many compers wanted all the comps in the main board. But even this could be rechecked, in case people are regretting this decision now that all the d/w/m with End Date are on here.

Possibly something like this could be asked......

Would you like Ongoing Comps to remain on the Regs Board?

Would you like Ongoing Comps on the Main Board with a Title Tag of E:99/99 (Ongoing)?

Do you want Reg d/w/m to remain on the Main board?

Do you want Reg d/w/m to return to the Reg board?

The only place I really disagree with fortuna93's post above is that I hate stickys on the first page of main, and would prefer to re-educate people that Stickys live on in a revitalised sub-forum...

We may well end up with no confusion left of where to post and just have to define how to post comps instead... People have quickly taken up the guesseddate tag, reg tag, etc....

    (I've added the bold highlighting)

    This is outr

As someone else put very well.... STOP!

You're absolutely right. I don't understand what you guys want at all.

I looked at what several people were asking me, tried to get my head round it and obviously utterly failed because they were all asking me different things.

The point is, when this originally all "blew up" you contacted me saying please give us strict guidelines from MSE that we can follow, despite me wanting you guys to sort it out for yourselves as it's you that know best what you all want.

From the last few posts it really sounds like you're all very much capable of sorting it between yourselves so please, do whatever you all need to do to sort it amongst yourselves, then ask a BG to pop it as a sticky at the top of the board and unstick mine because bringing me into the equation has obviously just confused things completely all round.

The aim, at the end of the day, is for you guys to establish the best way of comping for yourselves and in a way that will minimise anything any forum user "has" to do, whether it's someone updating stickies or a BG "having" to move threads.

So, I really think it's best I bow out of this gracefully (hopefully).

But as I've said several times, everyone, please keep it friendly, and try to work it out calmly. Jumping at perceived "digs" at each other doesn't help anyone.

    Andrea :)
