Sorry Mulle, but I don’t think many people would support splitting any comps away from the main board.
The postal/phone ones are not really listed on the main forum now... they're all squeezed into one sticky... there's no seperate threads for them.
I never even mentioned FB/twitter ones... as long as people add them in the heading then they shouldn't be a problem for anyone??? Ah... you looked at the picture and assumed the twitter/FB ones by themselves? lol! No, no... I just used threads I had posted here as headings... sadly I've never posted anything but FB/twitter ones! ROFL! If I had, then they would have been used as examples too... *giggles*0 -
Technically not what I was suggesting... the "dailies" would be the same as the "regular forum", apart from the fact that thay would only list the dailies, not daily/weekly/monthly like now.

After the original poll it was decided that the main board would be used for all comps with an End Date. So most of the Daily comps are no longer in the Regs forum, the only comps in there now are comps that are Ongoing with No end date. d/w/m reg comps with end dates are posted in the main forum.
I know the postal sticky is all one thread, as like the Puzzler/Tab threads, compers involved with those threads pm'd/posted to explain why those comps worked better in a long thread instead of as single threads to BGs, in comps disc and on the threads.
Re the FB/twitter ones, thats my fault, I was just clarifying a point raised in an earlier post, not in your post that I meant having Sticky link threads in there if we expanded the old Regs board into a Comper Corner/Ongoing comps board, and was not suggesting moving the actual comp threads from the main board.
Edited as I forgot to say ...
Hopefully if we could get people to use more title tags, then that would help with knowing what a comp was before opening the threads. I completely agree with you that we really need a place to start multiple comps chat/disc/debate/Q threads in through. That is why I think we could all breathe new life into the Regs board by tweaking its description and running those threads alongside the Onoing Regs threads. My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

one more thing ive just thought of that needs to be remembered.
on other parts of mse, chat threads are not allowed. they have the odd sticky thread like our inn here and that is it. aside from that chat is supposed to happen in the arms, and i have seen the mse team come in and shut down an ongoing thread which had deviated from its original topic to become more of a chat thread, with the posters told to go start it in the arms.
i do think it would be wonderful if we could split the comp guide up into a few different threads (but i cant see that being allowed to happen tbh), or perhaps even just have it reposted in a new thread so it doesnt look so daunting to newbies who may not realise that the guide part is only the first few posts, not the whole thread. perhaps though we could have the guide in one thread and an faq covering the most frequently asked questions (most of which are in the guide, but there is so much info in it that despite the great index it can be hard to be patient enough to take the time to find the question you want, so its easier and quicker to ask in a new post/in the dis thread if you have already worked out that thats the place for it).
perhaps we need for the ocmpers inn and the disc thread to be replaced with new threads more often too? so they dont get quite so long. i think mse standard is new thread at 2000 posts as otherwise they are too long and too hard on resources or something like that...would those threads seem less long and unweildy if they were cut of at 1000 say? so the current disc thread would have been renewed 600odd posts ago?
im just throwing thoughts out here by the way, in case any one thinks im ordering or being demanding or well whatever.
i like the idea of polls, including the suggested options by one eye. it would be nice to have fewer steps, but this way its a very clear result for each.
the issue with end dates on main is still very unclear, does and end date mean an overall end date, or does it mean the weeks end date, or something else entirely. so it does still need sorting.0 -
I really like poll options 1 and 4 that you have suggested – but would like fewer steps to decisons than 4 so that people don't get annoyed at 2 many polls. I agree, it would be a good idea to run them with just 2 options, and to run separate ones for d/w/m decisions on comps. As Beffffff said earlier, it would be very useful to get definitive decisions and to be able to refer back to the polls in the guidelines.
I also think that is should be made very clear that if Ongoing comps were given a guessedenddate, there may be a danger of them not getting reposted.
I too would like fewer steps, but let me explain a bit further. If you look carefully at the suggested questions and allow me to get slightly technical, there are 5 possible ways to treat dailies. Referring to the poll questions these are B, AC, ADE, ADFG or ADFH. Now if these five options were in a single poll then a possible result might be 22%, 20%, 20%, 19% and 19% respectively. This would leave us with the (widely hated) B as the winner, when actually 78% of voters are dead against it. By doing the poll as I have proposed then if people vote in exactly the same way the first result would be B-22% A-78% and B would be consigned to the dustbin (where, for dailies at least, it belongs).
Regarding your second point - yes that danger exists. It ought not to be a problem where a post with a new question etc was regularly added but is more likely for those comps with no new Question/Answer/Link/Prize each time (which is why the poll covers leaving just these on the regs board).
If ongoing comps are to be posted on main, then there is a crafty solution to this which I raised a few months back. Let them have a title that starts E: 31/02 (Ongoing) Win ... (other possibilities are E: 32/12 or even E: 99/99). A comp with this date would never be moved to G.O. by board guides doing their normal process. The comp would stay on main until either (i) enough people hit 'expired', (ii) a BG moves it when asked, or (iii) (as suggested by PCL earlier) it contains more than "XXX" posts so gets replaced.0 -

I have tried to deal with this by using the terms "promotion" and "competition". For example the "Mpora - win a pair of DC shoes" is a "promotion" that ends 25/03 containing daily "competitions" that end at midnight each day. The "Honeybuns - win cookies" is on "ongoing promotion" with a "competition" every Tuesday from 9:30am to 2pm. If we go for poll option 'B' then we use the "competition" end dates, if we go for any other option we use the "promotion" end dates.0 -
That would be a very good way to stop them getting moved to GO One Eye, I had completely missed that suggestion before.
Re Chat threads, this is likely to be our only chance to get a Compers Chat area, and as the board is already there I think that MSE Andrea would allow this if the BGs and members had agreed on it.My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

can I just throw this in for discussion
the result of the poll stating all comps (regular entry or once only) with an end date were now to be posted on the main board was very clear
what wasn't clear was the result of the 'what is a regular' poll and this is what has caused the continuing unrest,
as some regular comps (the ones with end dates) are now on the main board deciding what is a regular didn't solve the question of where it should be posted
loosely the regs board is now being used for ongoing comps with no end date,
if the regs board is to be kept for all ongoing comps with no end date then maybe what you should be deciding first is the definition of an ongoing comp with no end date (and maybe even change the name to the ongoing comps board)
if you did decide on a definition, by discussion and then maybe a poll, with someone suggesting poll options (One-Eye where are you)
then that solves the continuing confusion of what goes on which board, then you can move on to how different entry type threads are posted and so on until there are a clear set of guidelines to be pointed toI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. very good point Glad (Mamz looks around for Beffffff & One Eye), possibly tweaking and moving poll 4 to first poll may help resolve that??? I would also suggest that a paragraph explaining the poll options further was posted at the same time.
I'm just going to add this while its at the front of my mind, as I am suffering with baby brain drain lots...
promotion/competition now that you've explained that, is a much clearer way to discuss reg comp dates.
If we did go with a 4 step poll route plus separate polls for d/w/m,we could end up with 12 polls. What if we thought of running them separately but actually running each stage of the polls for d/w/m at the same time. So that we would have the Poll 1 running x 3 for d/w/m iyswimMy light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Please dont go mad at me, just making a few comments for concideration then hiding back in the corner.
Maybe things need looking at in a simpler way. Over complicating things seems to cause more discourse.
How does the game over system work? Maybe make sure threads dont actually get moved until midnight on the day competitions end.
So those who search by end date can search that particular day - and be able to catch the said twitter/facebook/newly added last minuite competitions before they get moved.
The compilations of dailies (as an example - as its the only one I have used recently) has become a full on mission to update and keep on top of from what I can see - as there is simply LOADS of them. I guess anything that eases the pressure and 'workload' of anyone working on updating and maintaining these threads would be a very good place to start.
There have been some weekly / monthly regs posted on the main board - with links to the regs board/thread.
Without these being on the main board I would have missed them. I liked this change.
I comp by searching end date, entering comps usually 2/3 days in front then checking current and next day daily.
I have been here since Aug 2010 - if its relevant or helps at all.
xxWishing you all good luck!
