but the purpose of this thread is finding a way to decide how to ask the question of what is an ongoing comp and what is a comp with a definite end date, so that a guidelines can be put up, based on a majority decision
Maybe then we should be looking at time catagories to define what people class as ongoing competitions.
Where do you draw the line, once a month for a year is what I would consider an ongoing regular. Same as once a week for 6 months.
The Ipad ones 1 entry a week was a comp with a definite end date, same as the kettle chips one which was daily but for 4 weeks. Those are ones set with end dates - but still worthy of listing so people can pick up on them.
This is a toughy. xxWishing you all good luck!

Some of the Ongoing Reg comps over in Regs, have been running since 2005. Many of them you need to repeat your entry every d/w/m, while others are a one time only entry, with a d/w/m draw taking place.
My fear had been that if they had moved over to the Main board with just a guessed date, that once that expired and they moved to GO, how would you ever find them again - so we may have lost comps forever... Yet One Eye's Title Tag option has resolved that for me... With the Expired button around on Main if they ever came to an end.
So with Ongoing Comps - the life of the actual Promotion is unknown and some go on for years.... Yet the actual competition draws may be d/w/m.....My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly

Sorry Mulle, but bumping is not recommended on comps forum and rarely works well. (Except if problem crops up with a comp.)
I'm not really sure why bumping is still frowned upon. The main complaint against it used to be the danger of entering the same comp twice when you failed to notice that you had thanked (did it myself more than once), but now if the Entered button is used, you see the green tick and know you have dealt with that comp without opening the post. Bumping should now only be a minor nuisance.
As someone who comps by thread start time, I would be one of the people who "could" miss out with a single thread being updated daily/weekly but surely that is up to me to find a way to use what is being provided and this is easily done by bookmarking these threads when they first appear, which is what I already do.we all know that peole have lots of different preferences and ways of doing their comping
but the purpose of this thread is finding a way to decide how to ask the question of what is an ongoing comp and what is a comp with a definite end date, so that a guidelines can be put up, based on a majority decision
then each comp thread posted will be treated the same according to the guidelines
I was in favour of keeping the Regs mostly because of the Ongoing comps but must now agree with Mamzie that One-Eye's simple but brilliant suggestion of using 99/99 as an end date for the Ongoings would mean that they no longer need to be regarded as "Ongoing" but just as regular comps. I am now finding it hard to find a reason for keeping the Regs.0 -

Having thought about it further, I am still in favour of keeping the Regs board for Dailies & Weeklies as I still feel that the number of posts generated by these will make the main board confusing and untidy. The dailies will need a daily post whether this is a new thread every day or a bumped thread with a new answer and the weeklies the same on a weekly basis. The number of posts involved will get in the way of all the normal comps. So all dailies/weeklies should go on the regs board. (Daily/weekly should mean those that need entering daily or weekly). They should all show the "promotion" end date or 99/99 for the "ongoing" and be in one daily/weekly updated thread.
The monthlies, however, would be no problem with only 12 posts a year. So all of these, with the "ongoing" ones using the 99/99 end date, can go on the main board.0 -

Most Ongoing and End Date Reg comps don't need to be bumped, as the answer/info needed is the same all the time - a small minority may have a new Q&A and/or Prize. Compers just need to know where they are, so that they can be entered, whether they follow the Stickys, search for the Title Tags, or notice them as they are posted.
I don't really notice threads being bumped, as I comp mainly by end date and sometimes by start date. When skimming through the pages I was really frustrated at first when all the End Date d/w/m Reg Comps moved over to the main board, but now am managing to mostly blank them out, thanks to their d/w/m tag being in the title. I normally spot any I want to enter early via the Stickys, then save the thread/comp link in a separate d/w/m favourites/bookmarks folder for me to re-enter from.
Just for information and Comparision;
Over in the Reg board there are 5 Stickys. The rest are Onoing Comps, as all Reg Comps with an End Date are now on the Main Board. .
DAILYs = 28 comps
WEEKLYs = 55 comps
MONTHLY = 317 comps
Giving a total of 395 threads (390 Comps) over 21 pages, on the Regs Board (earliest thread 12-07-2005)
In Comparison........
There are 4,635 threads over 232 pages, in the main comps forum (earliest thread 10-09-2008)

I was glad that BarnabySue posted this in Comps DIsc, as I would have totally missed it in IWIW - but without anywhere we can post Compers Chat, I occasionally see misc threads in IWIWBarnabysue wrote: »Just in case anyone doesn't venture on to the IWIWIW Board, this has just been posted there:
Beware CompLover21!!!
Just had a pm from a complover21 that contained a link that I haven't clicked but just wanted to give everyone a heads up as they got my name wrong and I've never had a conversation with them. Not sure what to do with the PM tbh maybe someone more experienced will know

you've already decided by voting that the regs board is staying for comps with no end date
Poll Results
You've had the opportunity to vote and the majority verdict is:
All regular comps with end date stay on main board but posters then post link on the regulars board Poll result
the purpose of this discussion is to end confusion on what exactly is a regular comp with end date, so we have a clear guideline on which board a comp gets posted
I assumed that this was now void due to the fact that it's just caused more fuss than solution.
I saw MSE Andreas post as a 'it's your board do what you want' so surely that's all suggestions not just to end confusion on regs.
Also I'd void the poll anyway due to the confusing options, the time it was open etc.
If it is as your saying just a discussion that isn't going to really change anything then I see it all just as a continuation of a pointless debate rather than one that leads to simpler and more efficient comping boards0 -
How about go back to how it was 6 months ago it wasn't broke then:/Darren0

It was broke just the people who were unhappy made significantly less noise (yes there were probably less of them) by asking on discussions why certain things were happening and being ignored.
IF we just went back to how it was six months ago, without defining a regular or an ongoing regular or saying if/how we treat dailies/monthlies/weeklies differently and where we post them there would need to be at least two exceptions to previous behaviour IMHO:
1) don't dupe a comp that is already posted on regulars onto the main board, ask for it to be moved from regs to main instead!
2) if you disagree with how a comp is posted (eg if it's a regular posted in one thread with answers (or whatever) added as and when needed and you would personally have just posted a new thread each time (or vice versa)) just enter, thank, bookmark if needed and move on.
I really don't think either of those things were much to ask. But that didn't happen.
Personally I think while we're here and discussing all this we should at least define a regular so there's no bickering about it when one person interprets the word differently. And as there's disagreement about what goes where and if d/w/m should be treated differently I think we may as well answer that question with a poll too. But that's just my opinion. I'm the type of comper that usually reads the T&Cs so I like rules so I know where I am with things and that I'm doing them right0 -

Thanks for the figures – I assume you found them by analysing the actual threads on regs. For comparison I have looked at the sticky lists and for daily and weeklies they are close to your figures, but the daily is slightly higher and weekly slightly lower due to those promotions that run weekly but are only open for one day. These have threads on regs labelled weekly but are covered by the daily sticky eg. Tie Rack
The weekly sticky contains 72 comps in total (includes both end date and ongoing comps).
More worrying is the monthly figure. The sticky only lists 227 comps in total (which includes both ongoing and any with an end date) but you have 317 (just ongoing). Either the sticky is missing a lot of comps, or the regs contains lots of dupes or expired comps! This really needs further investigation.0
