you could tell him/her in confidence or perhaps book it as annual leave and try and get it "back" if that makes sense, when you let them know?

The getting it 'back' idea seems the best so far - thanks for that suggestion. I'm not entirely certain it would be kept a confidence :( so I can't go down that route.

    Thanks again

    12 to 24 weeks thread

    Pregnancy thread

My scan date has been put one week forward because i opted for an NT scan and i would have been 13+5 after my dates on the original scan date. I rang them up and said "so, what happens if say, my dates are wrong by 2-3 days, easily done, and i can't have the NT scan?" and they were like "hmm, i suppose you're right, we could bring it forward one week if that helps?" err, yes it helps a lot! lol

    Hi All

I put on last week about expecting. Well a week has gone by and i'm now 6 weeks. I've been really worrying about every little twinge so i am glad to read that (i think) these are pretty normal. Bad period type pains, my stomach feeling as though its being pulled. I'm so anxious at the mo and cant wait to see the midwife, when she finally gets around to getting to my doctors surgery to pick up the new client list!!! I'm finding that my nausea/pain is worse at night and revs up at around midnight and then i keep waking around 4 with really bad period like pain but usually once i've got up and been to the toilet it seems to settle down again.

Anyway thank you for listening and hope you are all keeping well. :)

i had the worst period type pains between 5 and 8 weeks, i endured MIL's "hmm, that's not normal" and my dad's " that doesn't sound right" and i had a panicky early scan at 8 weeks(they are only about £50 in my area) and bean was doing absolutely fine - no cause for concern whatsoever! I know it's hard but don't worry - worrying will only make you feel worse.
When you see the midwife you will feel quite relieved - yes, this is actually happening to you! and most midwives are lovely - mine really helped me put my mind at ease, don't forget to write down any questions you might have, hope you have a happy & healthy 9 months :)

I'm quite excited, spoke to one of my friends in my village she was saying congratulations and that she may see me soon, I.forgot she's a midwife! Asked how far I am explained that I didn't really know and she said that she's going to have a look and try and get me in at work this week for a scan 7

I have already told my boss, but for this first scan I have took time in lieu that I still have left. If all is well at the scan I was thinking to tell the HR and ask for the maternity policy. And what code to use ir antenatal appointments!

Regardless of employer and their policy, once you have informed your employer, they HAVE TO (by law) give you paid time off for your antenatal appointments, so you shouldnt have to use Lieu time at all anyway. You can be asked to show an appointment card to your employer to show you have an appointment, and where possible you should try to arrange appointments to have minimum possible impact on your work- ie, start of day, end of day or on days off, however, you still have to be given the time off even if its a bad time!
It should be up to your boss to talk to HR for you and use codes.

Have a look at this link, which explains your rights and their responsibilities.

I know they should be giving me time off, but they have been good with IVF and I had quite a bit time off the for the appointments, etc. Besides, I didn't want to go back to work after the appointment - I live 25 miles from Manchester, where the office is, and the clinic is in Liverpool, which is just over an hour away from home fo me. I think, if I should some good will, it is going to be easier further on.

On a different note, I have calculated that I have about 116 working days left, if I can use all my annual leave before maternity leave, and start maternity leave on due date!

Sounds like they have been great! :D. Nice to have understanding bosses! I see your problem with the travelling, so it makes sense not to have to trek back and forth. Cant go wrong with a bit of good will!
If you decide you dont want to take all the leave before you go, you might well be able to take some of it before you come back, so you start earning full pay whilst being off still. I'm having 6 months off, 5 months M/L and the last month using the leave i have left over from this year.

Yes, that is why I'll want to talk to HR. Also, I don't know if I could get the bank holidays on top, there seems to be no real consistent way companies deal with this.

Besides, I don't really want to stay with this company. I'm not planning to be stay at home mum.

Well after my panic, my boobs have started proper hurting so I feel reassured - if something was wrong surely I wouldn;t be getting new symptoms?

It's funny, I got sore boobs from 5 weeks with DD, it is amazing how much breastfeeding while pregnant affects your body's reaction to the pregnancy hormones. Wonder if anyone's done a study on it?
