Hi ladies. Not sure if you've noticed I've been missing but I'm back now! But what a few days we've had!!! On Thursday I got the most awful phonecall ever from the hospital telling me that the result of our downs syndrome screening test was high risk at 1 in 10!!!!! Bearing in mind that 1 in 150 is classed as the start of the high risk group then we were VERY high!!! Anyway after discussing it with the midwife we opted to go to sheffied hospital for CVS testing. We had that done yesterday and finally got a call at tea time to tell us its good news and all is ok with baby!!!! Theres still an extra test they do that has a 2% chance of showing up a result that they didn't pick up today and there's also a 1-2% miscarriage risk so I've to take it easy but hopefully thats us out of the woods now and able to actually enjoy this pregnancy and get excited!!! Its been such a tough time up till now with the problems I had earlier on too so fingers crossed it can only get better!!

I'll have a read back now and check you've all been keeping ok and then I guess I'd better think about moving over to the 12-24 weeks thread seeing as I'm 12+4 now!

I thought you had moved accross too! Glad to hear that you had good news in the end and I hope you will be able to enjoy the rest of your pregnancy :) xx

I bought 2, so £10 for I will be getting £30 to spend in Boots. Thought it might be useful for some of you.

    Hi All.

Can i add myself please. We found out on Sunday that i am pregnant. Shock to say the least. For some reason i just felt as though i had to do a test Sunday afternoon. Lets just say i needed a cup of sweet tea.
Well its starting to sink in now. I went to the doctors yesterday and she says i am just over 5 weeks but i'll know more definite when have first scan.
First problem - wedding booked for June 2nd next year, baby due mid June. We had been saying we'll stop trying now until after the wedding. But sods law, it happened (thanks to going on holiday lol). So most things we had booked for wedding such as photographer, invites, chair hire, etc have been really good and let us postpone until 2013 :).

Just feeling a bit anxious at the mo as i have high BP so the doctor is referring me to Antenatal at the hospital so they keep an eye on me throughout and waiting now to get an appointment with the Midwife. And i know it prob doesnt run in the family but my mum suffered a lot of miscarriages and a stillborn baby so thats adding to the anxiousness as well. And stomach cramps were worrying me as well as pain in the ribs. But hopefully reading on here, that sounds fairly normal.

Anyway, i'm starting to get a little bit excited now at the prospect of having a baby and cant stop myself looking on websites, on here, etc for baby clubs for baby freebies lol.

Thank you all for listening :)

    I've been starving for weeks!

Off for another scan this afternoon - have the customary dread that things will have gone wrong by now. Kind of irrational really considering everything was ok this time last week - but with my history I suppose it's inevitable.

As for signing up for clubs and freebies - I'm determined not to do any of that till past 12 weeks - just don't want things to go wrong, and then to be hit harder by baby related stuff dropping through the letterbox.

    Good luck with the scan.

I had BLT baguette for lunch, and was till hungry, so got a jacket potatoe with coleslaw - eat that and keep thinking what else can I eat??? It is crazy!

I am not hope until about 7-7.30pm tonight, so I need to last - all I have left is a kiwi. And it is early night tonight as I have to leave house before 6am tomorrow morning!

Hmmm.... Maybe I should get a pack of crisps or a chocolate to make sure I am still alive when Iget to my acupuncture...

I have just seen this on the Thinkbaby website, as if its hard enough to keep paying your mortgage and household bills already!!! I just hope it doesnt happen I'm already having to save near on £5k to be able to afford to take 6 months maternity leave!!!!!:-

The Prime Minister, David Cameron, could be forced to back down on his plans for extended maternity and paternity leave and flexible working rights for those with families.
He's coming under pressure from senior members of his cabinet who believe the plans could further harm the already frail UK economy.
The Government has already outlined proposals to allow couples greater freedom to co-ordinate their maternity and paternity leave. There is also a separate proposal to make it easier for parents to request flexible working hours.
The scheme means parents could divide up all the existing 12 months of maternity leave, possibly even breaking it up into stretches as short as a few weeks.
Business leaders have described the plans as a nightmare and the Prime Minister is also under pressure from Chancellor George Osborne and Communities Secretary Eric Pickles, who are among those warning that the measures could hinder business growth.
Others, such as Mr Cameron's policy guru, Steve Hilton, are pushing further, controversial plans, including one to abolish maternity pay completely and shocking when you consider the news that most dads reckon they can't afford to take paternity leave
The news couldn't come at a worse time for Mr Cameron, who's already unpopular with his female voters after it was revealed his party's pledge to provide more midwives hasn't been fulfilled.
  • Hi ladies :)

I hope we are all well today?

Laura, I wouldn't worry too much about Steve Hilton's ideas, I can't see it ever coming to fruition, I would imagine there will be quite a lot of ministers in opposition to it :)

I think I have gone the opposite way to you guys, rather than be too hungry, I am struggling to eat enough.. I just don't seem to have an appetite so am eating in small portions throughout the day :o

Congrats and Hi ljane74  At least you are giving plenty of notice to people involved in your wedding of the change of date :) Glad they are all being helpful :)

Anyways, am skiving on here when I should be working, catch you all later :)

    12 to 24 weeks thread

    Pregnancy thread

Just updating with my scan date - the same as you Alizee, November 7. It's also my Dads birthday so hoping we won't get any bad news.

I am also starving! I thought it was the weather but maybe it is the baby!

My other pregnancy-related issue is that my milk is really drying up, and DD is not happy about it. She tells me my right breast has no milk, or milk that is 'horrible', although my left one is still OK. Think my right one is making weaning milk :( I don't know if I am ready for her to wean or not. I have such mixed feelings about it. I'd rather she did it of her own accord than being forced by my milk drying up, but I suspect that if left to her own devices she won't wean for a long time. Don't suppose anyone else is going through this? Or am I the only one feeding a toddler while pregnant?

Scan was apparently fine - she was struggling to get a good picture today for some reason - heartbeat exactly what it should be, measuring slightly small compared to last week (was 7+4 last week, 8+2 today) but could be cos of the crap view I guess. She said she's happy and that statistically now it should all be ok unless it goes freakishly wrong - but I'm not likely to stop panicking for a long while yet!

Got two weeks to wait now till I get scanned again - will be climbing the walls after one.
