Hi everyone, went to see the doctor today to get the ball rolling. I'm 6 weeks gone today. I have a few questions:

    1) the test for Down's - has anyone had this before? I'm not planning on having this test. I didn't have a 12 week scan with my eldest daughter, so don't know what to expect at this.

    2) the flu jab - again I wasn't going to have this either. What are your thoughts?

    3) is anyone else acting mental?? My husband has the patience of a saint at the minute. I burst into tears and then immediately flew into a rage yesterday because the chicken wasn't cooked when it should've been. Feel like I'm going crazy.

    4) I had TERRIBLE morning (and even all day) sickness in first trimester last time and it's starting again now. I was retching all morning. Any tips for lessening the effects of this?

    Hi everyone,

Sorry, I'm lurking from the big thread (am 26 weeks gone now) but couldn't help but laugh at this and what I got in a strop about the other day... On Saturday night it got to about 10pm and I'd been dozing on the sofa. OH woke me and told me to go to bed, so I did. Got upstairs to find that I'd forgotten that I'd taken the sheets off the bed to wash and hadn't got around to making the bed up again so had to do that before I could get into it. OH came up and helped me but when I was putting the duvet cover on I got in a major strop as the duvet wasn't filling the cover properly and I couldn't get it to even out, no matter how I shook it or fiddled with the corners etc! I ended up flinging the duvet down onto the bed and storming out of the room and into the bathroom. OH then sorted it out for me and it was all fine when I finally came out of the bathroom and got into bed. He's such a sweetheart, don't know how he puts up with me sometimes!

Going to tempt fate and go public.

Having had 2 previous miscarriages (one a missed miscarriage of twins) and had a mega bleeding scare in this one - I know from the 3 scans I've had (getting them weekly because of previous history and the fact I'm in the miscarriage system) I've got a jelly bean with a confirmed heartbeat that measured 7+4 last Wednesday (well, on my period dates I would have been 7+6 so I'll take that!). No sickness - apart from a bit of evening queasy that doesn't really come near "sickness" on the bleurgh scale - just sore "assets" and the odd fainting/dizzy spell (midwife's taken bloods to check iron levels but the docs ain't rang me back so I'm assuming they're ok).

Am past the point of previous losses at least - have seen heartbeat last 2 scans and have another one on Wednesday but, inevitably really, am terrified!

As for the Downs testing - what we've decided on is that we'll do the NT scan and bloods but if they come back as elevated risk, we'll just treat that as a heads-up that it's a possibility - because no way after what we've been through are we going to willingly go through a proceedure with the words "risk of miscarriage" attached to it!

Hey everyone, 5 weeks today for me, it seems like time has stopped as I would swear I've known for months not 10 days! Doesn't seem real though, and not helped by the fact I seem to be getting every bug going, today I have a temperature, glands are up, sore throat and sniffles.

Can anyone tell me what the booking appointment entails? I've been told its an hour and a half appointment, what on earth can take that long?

Hello lovely new people, I wish you happy pregnancies.

Kaemi, the booking in is really just forms, forms, forms, your history and the father of the baby's, I do a stressful job so we talked about health and safety, took bloods, talked through the tests you might have (nuchal fold etc), urine sample - it took me ages to pee under pressure so if you could take a sample that might cut down the time, weigh you, then you'll have your own questions too I guess, my took an hour and a half, about half an hour was spent trying to find the loo, and pee and I have some medical conditions that took a while to talk through.

Amymoo is right about the booking in. If you can, it is worth having a chat with your family, and finding out before your appointment if there are any conditions in the family, hypo/hyperthydroidism, very low or high bp, clotting, diabetes, genetic things etc, and if poss, your blood type and that of your OH. Makes it alot easier to answer some of the questions they will ask you, instead of , "err. i don't know!".

    Welcome Triangle x

Excellent advice from Kira, this was a helpful chat to have with our parents as I knew my dad had had a pulmonary embolism and the docs tried to stop me going on the pill years ago incase it was a familial trait, infact he simply got it recovering from an op, nothing hereditary but it's still always flagged on my health records, I didn't know about his high bp or my mums thyroid problems in pregnancy so it was helpful to know those details.

Oh Alizee I am the same, mine is next Monday when I'll be 13 weeks, feels like a very long wait but it will be here before you know it. On the positive, baby will be bigger and so you might get to see more detail, that's what I'm telling myself anyway! x
