Less than 12 weeks pregnant club! 2

  • Yeah that's why I'm veering towards no jab, as I worry about vaccines while pregnant too. Also, my family are very anti jabs and never go near doctors etc and I think this has rubbed off on me slightly too!

I don't like the sound of the Down's test (measuring fluid etc) and I know a number of children/young adults with Down's so already know quite a bit about it. That's why I don't see the point.

We don't want to know the sex either (didn't find out last time either)

ETA: my husband has started buying baby things already. I still think it's a bit early, but he came home the other day with a few bits and bobs he picked up "cos they were cute!"

Just because I still lurk and see whos around ;) thought it might be worth mentioning in my area they dont do the nuchal fold test - only downs testing offered is the quad test - which is a blood test and the ladies details all entered into a supercomputer and then the risk is calculated to be a ratio....
Lovely to see some faces here that I remember xxx
Love is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy,And sometimes life can be deceiving,
I'll tell you one thing, its always better when we're together
  • Hi everyone, went to see the doctor today to get the ball rolling. I'm 6 weeks gone today. I have a few questions:

    1) the test for Down's - has anyone had this before? I'm not planning on having this test. I didn't have a 12 week scan with my eldest daughter, so don't know what to expect at this.

    2) the flu jab - again I wasn't going to have this either. What are your thoughts?

    3) is anyone else acting mental?? My husband has the patience of a saint at the minute. I burst into tears and then immediately flew into a rage yesterday because the chicken wasn't cooked when it should've been. Feel like I'm going crazy.

    4) I had TERRIBLE morning (and even all day) sickness in first trimester last time and it's starting again now. I was retching all morning. Any tips for lessening the effects of this?

    1. Nope, didn't have it last time and won't this time :)

    2. Still undecided, get offered it every year due to Asthma anyway but never took them up on it before - not sure this year will be any different.

    3. Yes and no, I am a LOT more emotional than normal - I cried at the Simpsons the other night much to the amusement of OH and DS but I seem to be holding it together in work enough to at least appear sane :rotfl:

    4. Try ginger biscuits, worked a treat for me with DS - unfortunately I only found out about their effects at about 10 weeks so had to suffer the weeks before with the yucky sickness :(

Well, I am just about to start commuting by train to work (office moving, car travel basically impossible to Manchester centre), so I don't really want to get the flu from the commuting...

I might have to go to Tesco now to check if I can find a bargain, although OH insisted that I don't start buying anything yet (apart from what we have already, as we had a few children and babies visiting us over the last couple of years - so, cotbed, mattress, Stokke highchair, bath towel, a few toys, car seat, but all for a bit bigger child ).

Ooh Ginvzt, you must be near me - am in Stockport :)

Have agreed with OH that we will start buying things in January sales although I did veer into Mothercare the other day and got quite attached to a neutral coloured snowsuit - no good for me though as baby due in June so should (hopefully) not have any snow at the time :rotfl:
  • Hi All

So am moving to the next thread
    See you all soon

Glad to hear all went well Glimmer :)

You got my cat in your picture, we must be close :)

I am North - not too far from Preston. I think that is a good idea to start getting the bits in January sales, as I will about 16 weeks then, should everything go well. And the snowsuit - just get it in 6-9 months size, will be perfect for next winter!

  • Hehe, we got three cats, OH not over the moon that he is currently on litter changing duty :p

Have worked out I will be 20 weeks on 17th December and [STRIKE]if [/STRIKE]when I persuade OH to find out whether bump is blue/pink I will know exactly what colour scheme to buy for in sales :D

Good idea about the 6-9 months - I should be able to sneak at least one item past OH :)

We have 1 and half cats - we have a visiting cat, that, as OH say, comes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, any snacks and a nap. He is so cute and soft, that we can't resist letting him in. And our cat likes him, and asks (!!!) to open the door when he is waiting outside.

OH is on litter cleaning duty as well, the only thing is he is away during the week for the next few weeks, so it is me again. And careful hand washing afterwards.

My cat is taking care of me as OH is away, and he tells me to sit on the sofa and let him curl up on my lap, so I can stroke him. He is my baby until the human one arrives!

If you mean the nuchal fold test, it is done as part of your scan, they just measure the size of a part of the baby. One thing to consider is, if you are going to have a Down's baby, is it best to be forewarned so you can prepare yourself? Or would you rather not know until they arrive? Having the test doesn't mean you have to act on the results, just that you will then have the knowledge.

I'm generally opposed to vaccines, but had the flu jab. I checked with a midwife, and she said flu seems to affect pregnant ladies in a different way, so I decided to have it.
  • Awww, I love cats - they are so comforting :)

Mine are a bit little mini humans too - the tabby in the picture will lie on me or DS long ways like a baby (IYSWIM) so that he gets his belly scratched :)
