Then can you refer to the abuse team some of the threads that are as banal as how long were you celibate etc? Which is only one of quite a few threads I`ve read on these boards (sorry, can`t remember all of the titles) that have bu**er all to do with MS and are almost purely chatty?
I understand the need to keep a certain amount of relevance there, the whole forum is about moneysaving after all, but for goodness sake, surely a little non confrontational, non aggressive chat (unlike one or two threads I`ve seen go on for ages without any censure) can`t harm the board`s image.
I do understand the non medical advice rule, but no chat?
What is this? Nazi Britain all of a sudden? We aren`t in the schoolroom either.

I'm actually trying to help you keep this thread

I think the 'celibate' thread you refer to was in the Arms anyway which is a non moneysaving board, as for other threads, well neither the abuse team or BG's can physically read everything so rely on spotting a thread or it being reported

you're right to say the whole forum is moneysaving (apart from the Arms/DT) so that's why there have to be rules about non money threads, it's also a privately owned site so whatever the owner or his team decide is what goes on here
it's not that the chat harms the image of MSE but that it makes it difficult for people to find the moneysaving tips in a long, chatty thread, that is why Martin created the Arms/DT so the other boards could concentrate on the moneysaving

Hear blimmin Hear! That's pretty much how I see it too.

I wouldn't want this thread to get lost in The Arms and have all kids of juvenile bozos posting nonsense all over it. We're safer left undisturbed here.

It is relevant to this board and it is relevant to moneysaving. Keep it here.

I don't think the Arms is the right place for this thread either, as there will be lots of moneysaving advice in it, but the Arms is the place on MSE for non money chat, otherwise the moneysaving in a thread can get lost among the chat, another option is to join a forum where support/chat threads on medical conditions are allowed and just use MSE for the moneysaving :)

I think this is a great idea for a thread. I am going through it at the moment, and felt so crap this week that I really dont know how I went to work every day but I am determined it will not beat me. I have a myriad of symptoms and after a lifetime of having a cast iron stomach I now have to be careful what I eat.....and I hate it. I am also very moody and not particularly pleasant, and living in a household of 5 males is becoming very difficult, as they simply don't get it.

Anyway on an MSE note I too have started to buy all my vitamins when they are bogoff.......

I hope this thread is allowed to continue.

    Glad, thanks for your posts.

I've just spent 5 mins looking at some (just picked 4 randomly) of the other threads on this board such as:

    Fabulous new fashion chat.... (CHAT!!)
A Slimmer Christmas is a coming....
    Low carb diet support thread...
    Celebrity Slim..

These are chatty and supportive threads (from what I've seen) with very little, if any, reference to MS. Why aren't these threads being 'warned' as we are.

I promise I'm not being confrontational here, I simply don't understand WHY this lovely menopausal thread is being particularly targeted.

I bought one of those old fashioned hand fans from a charity shop for 50p a couple of months ago. Brilliant for the flushes. Slips neatly into my bag and moves an astonishing amount of air around when flapped vigorously.

    Hello Ladies

I am not menoausal yet, bt I will be one day and I have been following this thread with interest. I agree it shouldb't be dismissed, it is an important stage in the life of women, just like puberty and pregnancy.

And for what is worth, here is my moneysaving tip: get yourselves to a good yoga class that is tailored to menopausal women, or at least speak to the teacher beforehand. There is a particular method of yoga that has specific programmes for every stage of a woman's life and I can PM anybody who is interested. Just don't try Ashtanga or Bikram- you won't sleep and will make things more difficult. As your body is changing so are your needs, and yoga can support you through every stage. Even one class a week makes a difference and I know a few women who have found great relief and discovered themselves and their confidence again with the help of yoga. It is cheap, it is safe and it is something that you can take with you wherever you go and will support your health. I know this because it has supported me through bereavemnet and depression and also sorted out my menstual problems.

I am happy for people to pm me if they want to find out more. And thank you for sharing your wisdom with us!

    Ax
  • I'll add my pennyworth;) I really really hope we can stay. You are the first people I have even admited that I am going through the menopause to. Apart from a Gp last year. I told him about the hot flushes and lack of sleep and lack of periods and he wanted to give me anti depressants. I left thinking I would just have to put up with it. Then promptly went back to having periods again. I think the shock brought them back.
Anyway I read lots about it and it seemed to be suggested that exercise would help. (I already don't drink or smoke.-boring I know) The gym was too expensive so I started running(very mse:D) andthere are several threads on this site about running and I have regularly contributed to one of them. I feel a lot fitter than I did last year but the hot flushes are back with avengance. Someone on here pointed out a freebie herbal thing which I sent off for and it seemed to work. However to buy it seems really expensive so I might try out the soya pills option. I really really hope this forum gets to stay because I actually don't know anyone else going through this experience and it would be great to have people to share with .:o
Enough money to live on so retired early...planning to see where life takes me:D

as I said none of us can keep up with every thread on MSE so rely on having things pointed out to us, this thread I've been keeping up with because the original threads were not moneysaving and the titles (possible medical advice) caught my attention

Martin has added the following comment to the forum rules
I'm the publisher of this site, and therefore responsible for what's on it. Both morally, ethically and legally I do not want to be responsible for giving misleading medical advice. As I don't have the expertise to make a judgement on what is misleading or not I ask the Board Guides, where they've seen such a conversation, to post an official comment in the thread.

with any thread that has a medical condition as its basis it's always best to get in quickly and explain the rules rather than have to go through a long thread and delete peoples posts, which I actually don't like doing :)
as a BG here I'm bound by the rules and recommendations given to me by Martin and the abuse team, and everyone who registers to post agrees to keep to the rules too, wether they agree with them or not ;)

I'll look through the above threads now they have been pointed out :)

Same as teachergirl. I haven't talked to anyone else about it. I have been a long time lurker on this site, and seeing this thread yesterday was enough to motivate me to register, after about 4 years lurking. I felt as if there was a weight off my shoulders after writing my posts.

Thanks for the info about the low price calcium supps was looking in H & B and they were quite expensive.

There are lots of MS aspects to this for me - from having to buy a hair colour every 5 weeks (refuse to go grey just yet!), to losing days off work. I am self employed so if I have to take sick days I dont get paid.

Also I agree with joyfull. I really don't see how this thread is any different to several on here, and on the relationships area of the board. If we have to go to Money Savers I don't think I'll post there as I find it too confrontational and intimidating.

Got to admit, I gave up dyeing my hair...it`s normally dark blonde/grey..two reasons, it got too costly, and my hair was like dry straw! :( It`s recovering now though and the condition is good again, so now all there is to cope with is the dreadful thinning and lots of coarser grey coming in...strangely, as it`s long, that doesn`t look too bad, I hope! :)

Yes, that rings a bell- about 8 years ago I went to my gp with terrible PMS- antidepressants was his answer. I found that changes in my lifestyle and a better diet , along with my yoga ARE the answer. Running is probably exhacerbating your hot flushes as it is heating up you nervous system... how about swimming? Fantastic exercise, but much gentler on your body and mind... please don't try to keep up, just keep active but observe very closely how these things make you feel...

I would advise caution with herbal supplements- they might not be drugs but they definetly have an effect and you need to be sensible...plants and herbs can be powerful- but I would support that route over the drugs one anytime...
