espresso wrote:I realise that it's difficult keeping track if these threads but have you read post #122 of this thread? As you have only just paid a connection fee of £47, it would seem silly to pay another provider a connection fee so soon! After your minimum contract period, you can get a MAC to move providers and then you don't have to pay connection fees.
Ahhh....if it were so simple!
Are you with Biscit?
It is possible people could then be even worse off?
Wouldn't they then be taken on as new customers presumably then coming under Biscit's new terms, which are quite draconian!
http://www.biscit.net/biscit_internet/biscit_terms.php6.6.2 If a New Residential Customer wishes to discontinue the service, they should complete the Cancellation Request Form described in 6.2 above and send it to Biscit with a termination fee of £70 (including VAT). On receipt of cleared funds, the termination will be deemed to have taken place at the next invoice date. If the Residential Customer requires a Migration Authorisation Code ("MAC¨) then an administration fee of £35 (including VAT) will apply, payable with the termination fee.
Considering the extreme difficulty i had cancelling a simple dialup account, and still have blocks in place with my bank etc, it's not a route that i would recommend.
If people are concerned about paying a new connection fee, then i would suggest perhaps signing up to a new provider that offers a *free* connection (and of course all the baggage that may or may not go with that)

@oapDoes it change when I change to another server?
If you have a static ip then the same ip will be left at every website you visit, also each pop email you send. It won't change.
When you change to a new service provider, then you will be issued with a new ip
Also, the other point about contacting Newnet out of hours. I haven't needed support, so i can't really comment on that with any certainty.
If you have questions concerning your signup, then it may be better to wait until Monday to speak to the correct people. There will only be a skeleton staff around out of hours. In October when I moved from Fast 4 dial up to Broadband and found myself with V21 then Biscit, I paid £47 for connection to BT, I wonder if I can claim that back, because I am going to have to pay another £35 to New Net?
That is of course the necessity for MAC codes once a connection fee has been paid.
But Netservices refused, leaving everyone back at square one, having to sign up with new providers and pay again (or find a provider offering a *free* connection)
Ofcom has had so many complaints from this and previous fiascos that they have been forced into taking the matter more seriously, hopefully resulting in a more compulsory MAC regime forced onto the providers
But jam tomorrow, ain't it always the case?
@NixI was told that choosing static costs extra not long ago. Is this now a free option with most BB providers?
Hi Nix, i believe it is the case that most providers will offer 1 static ip free of charge, but charge for blocks etc. There will always be exceptions of course, so it might depend on which provider you're asking0 -
Online 2.5hrs(don't tell anyone)!
Don't know if anyone has seen this
Found it while trying to find BB at a price/deal I can justify in true MSE stylee.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
I know we only have a few hours, perhaps a day or two at most, before our briefly reconnected ADSL goes for ever, but I wonder if/how NetServices are monitoring monthly download caps during this period.
If I were a betting man, I'd say they can't be, and would certainly find it very difficult, for several reasons, to try and raise any charges for excess usage...
Perhaps I'm the last person to cotton on to this possibility...?

Yep, will try again Monday, in the meantime I have sent Newnet an e mail to check the questions before sending off
Spoke with BT this morning, they cut me off ten working days from 24 November unless I go with Ezee something or other, cannot remember the name. None of us are doing that so we shall all go together I suppose.
My friend has just sent me an e mail saying newnet feature very well on the websites for such things.
So the fortyseven quid has gone, I do not mind paying thirtyfive quid if its a decent company, and £12.95 is going to be adequate for what I do, ie surfing for information and e mails, I dont download music or films. I am a lite user as they say.
Cheerio and many many thanks for the answers to all my questions, you are great. oap0 -
Just done the line checker on Bt, it says my line will cease on the 1 December, so I wonder how long Netservice will let us stay on line?0

Ps I have sent Netservivces and e mail and asked the question!!!!!!!0

I'm one of the people who joined fast4 Dialup back in September when the price dropped to £4.99.
I'm convinced this was to suck in as many customers as possible before the take -over.
I still have not received my stolen payments from October.
Because I signed up using Switch (no protection as with DD ) I now have to go to the Police station, get a crime number, then back to the bank to fill out fraudulent payment forms.
This means time off work, petrol etc is it worth it for £9.98 ?Or does the principle outweigh the cost.So far only the one payment has gone out this month.
Me too Spud - joined fast4 dialup end of August. I paid first month on CC and then changed to DD. They took one month DD ok, and then when Biscit got involved they went back to taking from my CC. I reported it to my CC provider, but that was weeks ago now and I haven't heard anything. I've ditched em anyway and gone elsewhere.

Sorry for being a thicky, but do I take it you do not need a mac code for dial up,?0
