  • In case anyone is getting depressed about the impending disconnection of our ADSL service, this should cheer you up! http://www.fugufish.org/frog/?p=38 (and remind you why you want a BB connection again)!

All ok except there is nowhere to tick regarding your comment auto on off.

The online signup does specifically ask the question concerning interleaving, but if the forms don't mention it, then i presume it will be left on auto, which is fine.

There is a tick box for do I require a static or dynamic ip address, what does that mean please.

A dynamic ip address means each time you log on your ip address (a unique set of numbers that identifies your connection) is different each time.
A static ip address means just that, it doesn't change.

to find out your current ip address, go to any ip identifying page, such as:-

    http://whatismyip.com.au/
    or
    http://www.whatismyip.us/

There are pros and cons, but there is no real security risk using the same ip as long as normal security measures are used.

The dial-up connections will most likely be dynamic, but probably your current V21 broadband is static

So i would say choose static ip

  • Hi oap,

just having a quick re-think on that last point, they used to include free web space but it was discontinued some time ago.

If it's the free web space they are offering (which i doubt) then it really is worth having.

Ask for it and say you'll have it if it's free and see what they say

Very, very few took up that offer, that's why it was discontinued. Should be interesting to see what they say.

Sounds like you may have an older form which refers back to this. They probably don't get too many people signing up this way :)

They gave me an ip number, thanks, also it says provider is Netservices, that has answered a question for me. My number is the same on both links.

Does it change when I change to another server?

I am wondering about Newnet contact centre, held on for another ten minutes today, still holding!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone else had this repeated disconnection ? Perhaps its just a one off connected to the adverse weather here at the moment.

Yup, here too, just after telling the better half that the service has been really good recently. Is there a moral here somewhere?

I was told that choosing static costs extra not long ago. Is this now a free option with most BB providers?

Victor_Delta - looks like a laugh but, on 56k, I'm not even going to attempt it!

Hello again, I have just been thinking!!! AGAIN!!

In October when I moved from Fast 4 dial up to Broadband and found myself with V21 then Biscit, I paid £47 for connection to BT, I wonder if I can claim that back, because I am going to have to pay another £35 to New Net?

    What do you think???

It was not my fault that BT are ceasing my line is it?

I realise that it's difficult keeping track if these threads but have you read post #122 of this thread? As you have only just paid a connection fee of £47, it would seem silly to pay another provider a connection fee so soon! After your minimum contract period, you can get a MAC to move providers and then you don't have to pay connection fees.

I have been thinking along these lines too. I was with V21 for 18 months, then in June moved house and had to pay the £47 to regrade the new telephone number, even though the previous owners had BB. I could not change providers and get a free connection, because i had changed the package the previous November, which V21 decided meant that I had now entered into a new 12 month contract. I thought it was a con at the time, and am even more minded to think so now. However since Biskit are now apprently offering a move back to their services ( though probably at an inflated price ) I dont really see how we can reclaim it.

    Hi oap

I'm one of the people who joined fast4 Dialup back in September when the price dropped to £4.99.
I'm convinced this was to suck in as many customers as possible before the take -over.
I still have not received my stolen payments from October.
Because I signed up using Switch (no protection as with DD ) I now have to go to the Police station, get a crime number, then back to the bank to fill out fraudulent payment forms.
This means time off work, petrol etc is it worth it for £9.98 ?Or does the principle outweigh the cost.So far only the one payment has gone out this month.

Have been online 58 mins so far, though at a slowish 31.2kbps.
