GuessWho wrote:For your next choice you may want to consider a more reliable isp (as opposed to Visp).
Newnet falls into that category. It's also a monthly contract. Starting at £11.95 with the DD discount.
Not saying it's good or bad but isn't that price if you pay for one year up front?
Read the small print* Monthly equivalent - annual cost divided by 12.
# IP addresses: 1 IP included. Up to 8 IPs - £3.76/mo.
Prices shown include VAT and a discount for Direct Debit payment. A 5% surcharge applies for payment by alternate means.
No refunds will be offered in the event of cancelled service.

Yes, Espresso, you are correct on the monthly charge.
Thanks for pointing that out.
Just re-checking with Newnet on the telephone they confirm that if you take out the monthly option and also have the DD discount, then it is £12.95
If not paying by DD then no discount, of course
i still think it's a good deal, but people can make up their own minds, of course.
The other point about buying additonal IPs is unlikely to concern oap, i would think.
I am actually with them although i use a different product0 -
Well I do not download anything, no music or films, etc, but go on for information etc, and I only need and only had one e mail address, light user I suppose.
In a minute going to have a look at the Virgin one. at £9.99
Also will look at the Net? cannot remember what you said it was called, trying to sort something before they cut me off in a few days time.
I went into my Nat West branch this morning, we are out in the sticks by the sea, so a sub branch, took along a copy of the V21 notice they put on the net, and a copy of offcoms latest page, they said I would get my money back on the Bank D D indemnity, they must be insured for this sort of thing, however, I did point out to her that V21 are still trading as a limited company. They ought really to get it back from Biscit. Anyway, will see what happens, but I did not have to fill in a form or anything, just mentioning this in case of any use to anyone else.
Cheers and lots of thanks for all the help and advice, terrible when you are sitting here without someone to talk it over with, everyone I speak to says, Oh Tiscali,Rubbish, or oh Tiscali marvellous, Talk Talk rubbish, Talk talk marvellous,,so its all a bit of a minefield, but hoping to get it right next time, who would ever have guessed I was happily using Fast 4 dial up, then decided right in the middle of the confusion to go broadband, they put me on V21, then it was biscit and I never moved off my chair!!!!! oap ps my son who lives a long way from me says BT are the most reliable, yes but they are also expensive!!!0 -
Has anyone experienced billing on a different date to that displayed in the V21 user control panel?0
-
During this fiasco I checked my v21 statements and phone bills, partly because other posters here had noticed anomalies. v21 have overcharged me over a year by £84.99 on my CCs, by "double dipping", moving the date of payment backwards (so they can get more than 12 payments a year) and just plain overcharging.
I cannot say I am particularly happy with this, to put it mildly.0 -
I have just seen this on the adsl guide
"Many people signing up to a new provider will be looking for free activation, we advise people to make sure that they have read the full terms and conditions for any freebies they get from a new provider, as free activations are often tied to longer contracts, or a separate contract with a buy out fee that reduces to zero over a period of up to five years."
I am getting more and more confused, Virgin is offering free modem and connection, also Primus, crikey, what does one do??0 -
Hi, just phoned Primus
£14.99 a ,month, 1 meg bb. Free evening and weekend calls, otherwise 2.5p per minute during the day, also 0845 etc, same as BT
I asked could I put 1899 in front of it during the day, yes, but you would have to dial 1280 first to go back to BT, then 1899, I wonder if it would work?
1 year contract, no money back offers.
Free modem and connection.
Big company, American, just sorting out their uk broadband packages?? I am thinking about it
Regards oap0 -
I have decided on Newnet, very very helpful, they supply their OWN service, do not have anyone like Netservices, told them I may not be able to join up on line in case Net services cut me off and my e mail address would not work, so they are sending me a form and we are going to set it up manually, £12.95 a month, one months notice, up to 8gb or is it mg? he he, they charge £35 bt connection at present, special offer, have had a few V21 customers, no bother with my phone line, will all stay as it is. Got the chaps name and they are based in Fareham, Hants. Annoying as I had just paid V21 for my connection!!!
FINGERS CROSSED -he said they would keep on trying with BT until the cease had come into operation. He knew all about us not having a MAC.
I hope to sleep better tonight!!!
Cheers, and thanks again all of you, regards oap0 -
Yes I saw that, went through everything with them , not signed up yet as I said in last post, got to do it on the manual form in case my e mail address disappears when BT cut off the broadband connection.
Will pay monthly £12.95
regards oap0
