Thanks very much Guess Who, this is what it said,

Your exchange is ADSL enabled , ADSL broad band line rate up to 2 Mbps. Test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL max broadband line rate of 8Mbps.""

My connection with Biscit was very fast. I do not think I would have any problems, it might be a bit slower, but thats ok ,, I do not download music or videos etc.

Cheers and thanks again, oap

ps Are you finding them OK?

Hi again Guess who, that Kitz site is an eye opener, saved it to file to read tomorrow, too tired to take it in just now, but thanks, very interesting on how it all works. Regards oap

Yes, sounds like you should be Ok :)

This connection will be faster than Biscit. I'm sure you were on a fixed speed product with them, either 1MB, or 2MB ?
Anyway, this gives potential up to around 7MB (although everyone calls these products *up to 8MB*)

I have fleetingly hit 7MB, but most of the time around 5-6MB
Contention seems to be more apparent with MaxADSL

One thing, when placing you order, as well as requesting email, you will also be offered the options for interleaving, which will be *On* *Off* or *Auto*
The default is Auto, so best to leave it on that.
If you change it to On or Off then you may incur a £6 charge.

Interleaving is a process utilised by BT to stabilise poor lines when they are producing crc errors etc.
But it does so at the expense of slightly increased latency (ping times)

Newnet make a one-off charge if you decide to change interleaving from default. If BT change it at any time then Newnet will chase it up for you

I only mention it so you don't change it from auto and suddenly find an admin charge :)

Hello again, Oh thanks a lot , if there is anything on the form (which is supposed to arrive today) that I do not understand I will ring them,or if really puzzled maybe ask you if you do not mind, I wish I had your knowledge and expertise!

I have just had a look at my ADSL modem information, it says

Receive 2272 kbits/s and transmit 288 kbits/s

Means absolutely nothing to me, but maybe it might to you??

Thanks for all the help, much appreciated.

Regards and best wishes oap

Hi oap, those *sync* tones of 2272/288 tell you that you are on a fixed 2Mb connection.

What will happen with ADSLMax is that those tones will increase to allow faster maximum speeds.

The best possible they can *sync* at will be 8128/448

Where you found those tones, perhaps it also mentions attenuation and noise margins?

For comparison, my router status page looks like this:-
Line Mode G.dmt Line State Show Time
Latency Type Fast Line Up Time 03:00:05:21
Line Coding Trellis On Line Up Count 1

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 8128 448
Noise Margin 12.9 dB 23.0 dB
Line Attenuation 19.0 dB 12.5 dB
Output Power 12.4 dBm 19.8 dBm
By the way, for anyone taking up a MaxADSL connection (up to 8MB), there is what is called a 10 day training period. During that period BT will log a profile for your line, as the modem/line decide on the best combination of sync tones/speeds for your line.
BT will not accept any faults reported during this 10 day period, until everything has settled down.
This is the case with all ISPs

My 10 day training period went off without a hitch and had settled down within 3 days, but it is not the case for everyone, depending on the line.
As i said before ADSLMax can be a little finicky on mediocre lines, and the system is far from foolproof, unfortunately.

ADSLMax is less tolerant of noise/extension wiring problems. To be sure my training period (first 3 days) went Ok, i plugged the router into the master socket, with just one phone extension (removing sky box etc). The first 3 days are crucial because that is when the BT system will be forming the line profile.
If the profile logged a low-ish speed, what that means is that BT would not accept any fault on that line regarding speeds if the profile didn't allow them.

Just for reference again,
The BT speedtester is almost impossible to run these days, but i just managed to drag this out of it

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6337 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact

your ISP for assistance.

Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

so mine is looking good :)

Biscit Increases Customer Support Capability, Issues Update on V21/NetServices Dispute

London, November 24, 2006 – Communications service provider Biscit today announces a threefold increase in its London-based customer support capability from Monday, November 27, 2006.

The CSP also announces that the long running commercial dispute of its V21 business with NetServices plc has passed to its legal representatives. V21 customers who have been unjustifiably deprived of their broadband service by NetServices can be reconnected at no cost to Biscit servers by emailing their V21 customer ID number to orders@biscit.net. They will also retain their email addresses and all Internet settings.

Anyone gonna stay with them?

However, where does that leave us with the contract? I have not seen that message anywhere. Regards oap I presume they have cancelled their contract with me cos I have had no internet, and was told by Netservices it had ceased, by the way I am here at home, Netservices are still letting me on, presumably free?? oap

Thanks Guess Who for all that super information, will have another look, I do not have a router, everything worked fine without one, is it necessary, as I live very near the exchange, a very small one albeit.?

Got the form today, which Newnet promised, so that was quick.

All ok except there is nowhere to tick regarding your comment auto on off.

There is a tick box for do I require a static or dynamic ip address, what does that mean please.

Also do I require inclusive web hosting, I do not know?

I tried to ring them tonight on both help and sales, held on for 10 minutes, gave up, so if you can help with above, would be very much obliged.

Thanks, oap

Regret boasting on Tuesday (#708) about length of connection .Tonight is first time online since then .I have been disconnected 3 times in an hour whilst catching up on this total farce .

On the plus side speed has increased on each redial back up to 45+.

My sympathy to all the BB users especially oap ,trying to follow whats going on is difficult and demands total concentration.

I was considering BB but have been put off by the near impossibility of comparing products on a like for like basis.
It's the same as trying to compare mobile phone packages!

Has anyone else had this repeated disconnection ? Perhaps its just a one off connected to the adverse weather here at the moment.
Move along, nothing to see.

Hi, who are you connected with, were you with Biscit V21, as I said I presume as mentioned somewhere in this thread that Net Services are giving us a few days grace before we get cut off for good. Cheers oap

We have not been cut off at all, very good service, pity it was not like this before they pulled the plug on Biscit. !!!!
