I got the letter today and did a comparison and find that EON save me a whole £6 a year against the EDF V6. I wouldn't have bothered moving if EDF had offered the V6 straight away but I really didn't like the letter. So have moved to EON and get £55 cashback through Quidco

I've just done the comparison and would save £34.73 by switching to EON Save Online V2. Can't see anything about a penalty clause, is that right?

    Optimist what is Quidco?

Thanks for the link, I didn't know there was such a thing. I have also just realised that people are getting cash from comparison sites for switching. Missed out on that. As a woman in her sixties I find this world gets more complicated every day. I remember when things were simple.

On second thoughts maybe things weren't so simple, maybe I was just more capable of understanding them :)

Oh dear at the risk of confusing you more if you decide to use a cashback site then you need to make sure the cookies, little bits of info placed on your machine by the site your visiting are deleted before changing providers. If you don't there is a chance that it wont register your move against the cashback sire and the comparison site you used will get the money instead of you.

There are several ways of doing this but probably the easiest to explain would be for you to download CCleaner and run that before changing through the comparison site. That will clear the cookies

Dont run yourself down my mother in law is 82 and loves messing on the computer !

Just been in a thread on this subject. An E-on employee has now replied and cleared it up.

There's not a penalty clause as such. However most of the value of this tariff is in the large discount, the unit prices are quite high. You get the discount applied quarterly.

It sounds like the discount lasts roughly a year. If you switch away before that, you don't get the discount on the final bill. This means you pay the higher undiscounted standard rate for the period from your last quarterly bill until the point the switch takes place. This could add up to a fair chunk of money if your switch is badly timed because the undiscounted rate is not cheap. So be careful to time any switch away to be just after your quarterly bill.

Think I'm going to go for this tariff though as the alternatives have various other kinds of lock in.

Just another type of penalty then. I think I am going to stay with EDF and switch to V6. At least I get the nectar points.

I wouldn't base anything on Nectar points - I was getting about £10 a year out of EDF on this so its not a big factor. EON give you Tesco points, but again they ain't worth much.

Don't think the fact that EON don't give you discounts on your last bill is a factor either. You're in the same position with EDF. If you switch away from EDF V6 before the tariff ends you'll get the cancellation charge so you'll have to wait till it finishes. During the period of switching (4-6 weeks) you'll be on their standard tariff i.e same position as EON.

I've decided to switch to EON, virtually no difference in price, no cancellation charge, a energy 'fit' monitor, which looks like a nice boys toy and £55 cashback. Will review in the Autumn after my first bill, and have the freedom to move elsewhere if needs be (maybe back to EDF, with more cashback !)

I received my letter yesterday, which co-incided with my bill arriving, showing me how much of an increase it would be!
I went onto Uswitch and decided to change over to npower....and all I've had from friends on facebook is 'don't do it!'
Unfortunately, I have 'already done it' I wish I'd gone with my instincts and gone back to E-on, but for some reason I didn't and decided to go with the company that would save me the most.
Can anyone tell me who I contact to say I've changed my mind about going with npower. I know I have a 7/14 day cooling off period. Or can I just apply to E-on straight away and it overrides the npower request? Grrr I'm so confused and really annoyed with myself.

I've got no loyalty to npower, but was with them for a year or so with no problems.
