Disgraceful Dishonest Deceitful EDF Marketing of Tariff Change - The "Great Savings" letter to confirm the end of Online Tariff Version 5 on 1st August 2010 says EDF will be "aligning your prices with our competitively priced Standard Tariff." Now for the TRUTH .. Dual Fuel ELECTRICITY tariff will INCREASE by 75% from 10.66p to 18.67p (plus VAT) for the first 900 units annually. Additional units INCREASE by 26% from 8.31p to 10.50p (plus VAT). Similarly GAS primary units INCREASE by 12.5%. This will happen AUTOMATICALLY if you do nothing. Why can't EDF disclose the truth? Methinks it's time to search elsewhere for a better deal !!!0

Methinks 2am has a grudge. Seems to be cut n pasting the same thing into any EDF thread going.0

Not true JohalaReewi .. no grudge. In fact I have been delighted with the Online Tariff v5 package. I discovered this active thread only after I had posted on one other thread which had just ONE reply .. so much better to post here.
My concern is the deceit of EDF concealing the reality of a huge increase in charges in an apparently "Good News" letter instead of disclosing the truth of the price comparison. The majority of consumers are unlikely to realise the significance of doing nothing until they receive their next bill (astute Money Savers excepted of course !!) so EDF are taking unfair advantage by automatically switching from a leading tariff to an unattractive "Standard" tariff. Also there is insufficient lead time to complete a switch to an alternative supplier before the cut-off date so users are trapped into paying the increases of up to 75% for a period. I hope my post prompts users to make an informed choice.0 -
I must agree with 2am - I think the EDF letter was very misleading and some people will take it at face value until they get their first bill!0

I'd only been with EDF 7 months so a bit disappointed.
Using the last 7 months units, I've roughly calculated the cost of V6 to V5 and didn't really find anything in it.
So I'm staying and moving to V6, might be worth a move for a cashback deal only.
Have a try with your own gas & elec bills see what you get.
For example my gas units on V5 came up as £268 for 210 days, while with V6 tariffs and the same figures and number of days £270.0 -
I agree with 2am. The EDF letter as posted is seriously and intentionally misleading and in fact fairly blatant sharp practice. It is hardly the way a reputable supplier should behave. By all means put the best spin you can on things but do not try to pull the wool over that this is anything other than a massive increase for Online Tariff v5 customers. There are many customers who I fear will suffer from bill shock if they do nothing, having been lulled into a false sense of security by this artful and sly puff piece. EDF could have told custmers that the best option is to ring up and request another online tariff but it appears that would have cost them money. It would have been refreshing if they had the honesty and decency to do so.0

Decision made, I've switched to EON. The cashback has tracked already which is nice...0

I have just got the dreaded letter too and I am on "CONline Tariff Version 5"
I remember when I took the product out that there was a small cancellation fee but my question is....if they are removing the product surely they can't charge me a fee for leaving them...when this is through no fault of my own?
Also when I turned over I was hoping it listed the old prices too but it doesn't which is really misleading!
