EDF Advice please
Options
I have been on EDF online v5 tariff for a couple of years now. Today I received a letter saying they are moving me to the standard tariff.
When I look on the comparison sites it says EDF online V6 is best deal for me.
Can I ask EDF to put me on this rather than standard tariff they have moved me to?
Thanks

Hi,
I had the same letter. I did like the way it said "we'll be aligning you prices with our Standard Tariff" ..........which really means "We are putting your prices up"
I've also switched to the Online Saver V6 as this still comes up as the cheapest on the comparison sites.

Got my letter today & switched with no hassle to the Online S@ver v6 tariffs for both fuels. Should take about a week for the switch.
For info, my v6 tariffs for the Eastern region are (excluding VAT);
Gas, £0.2385/day standing charge, all kWh units £0.02455
Electric, £0.2061/day standing charge, all kWh units £0.0707Time is a concept of relativity, yet as a concept, relativity is timeless.0 -
Just got my letter - it's a staggering 40% price hike on electricity for me.
Sorry, as the above question - can you use online switching sites to move to a different tariff on the same provider and get the cash back? If not I'll just call up.
A couple of the other providers are fractionally cheaper for me than online 6 but I'd like to stay with EDF I think. I like the 0800 number customer support, nectar points, energy tracker and they've been generally competent. Although I wouldn't pay 40% more for that!
Thanks

Got the same letters this morning and if I want to stay with EDF, which I want to as I've had very little hassle with them over the years, it's the Online S@ver V6 tariff that comes out as best. I even save money on my gas bill :j
I rang EDF up and swapped tariffs as of today, I just gave them final readings and everything will be done within a few days.
Come the end of next June I'll have to go through it all again as the tariff comes to an end on June 30th 2011.0 -

I've just swapped over to v6 too, no hassle. No you can't do it via a cashback site as these are only for new customers.
I think the leaving fee is being applied by all suppliers now, they've obviously decided they have too many customers swapping every year!
I wanted to stay with EDF too. As others have said, the 0800 phone no & nectar points [even for reading your own meter!] are great, and I don't think its worth the hassle of swapping suppliers to save an estimated £20/£30 a year when the situation could very well change if gas prices flucuate much this winter.
I also like their policy of giving you the dual fuel discounts with each bill, rather than those companies like npower who only give it on your annual anniversary, not a lot of use if its midsummer when you'd rather have the money off the winter bill, or swap before your 12-month anniversary.0 -
I'm considering going onto saver V6 from online 5 but 2 things nagging at me-
1) you have no real price protection
2) you will be hit for £50 (£25 for each fuel) if you leave them. However, you can move off this to another EDF tariff for no charge if prices head north.
To be fair i've being with EDF a couple of times over the years and never had any hassle (NO I DON'T WORK FOR THEM) . I remember when i was on an old London Energy tariff and they were cheaper than anything else out there till EDF took them over and eventually moved us off it. The good old days when this lark was relatively simple!0 -
Don't just jump to another EDF tariff! I have been with EDF for over 5 years and moved from Online v2 to v5 some time ago. Up until now, I had been happy with the service provided. However, given the length of time EDF have given as notification of the tariff change (not sufficient for me to transfer to another supplier) I am now an unhappy cutomer
In the past, I've stayed with EDF despite some other suppliers being marginally cheaper (£20-30 per year) because I'd been happy with their service. I called EDF and explained that I'd be happy to stay with them (despite E.On being £25 per year cheaper for me) if they would wave the lock in period. EDF did offer a £25 account credit, but that only matches my E.On price and with E.On there's no cancellation fee compared to £50 from EDF. So I'm off to E.On!!
Good Luck!!0
