E-on Save Online v2 Discounts Question
Options
Just been looking at E-on Save Online v2. This tariff is fairly expensive in terms of energy unit prices, however it comes up top for me on price comparison sites, I assume mainly due to discounts.
In the rules it says:
"Dual fuel direct debit customers receive a discount of 8% off their total annual bill. Save Online customers receive an extra discount of 18.6% off their total annual bill for managing their account online. The total discount is 26.6% off the total annual bill."
I read this as meaning you only get the substantial 26% discount if you stay with them a year. Is that right? I'm just wondering if this is just another way of phrasing a 12 month lock in.
I'm currently on EDF online v5. Due to the recent price hike (couple of other threads about this) I'm switching. Was looking at EDF online v6 but then saw the £50 cancellation charge. Was looking if there is a similarly priced tariff elsewhere without the lock in.
Thanks
Bonzer.

Im looking to switch to EON from EDF as well clarification would be useful0

The sting is in the final bill.
The discounts are applied in full for every bill generated, quarterly.
When you leave EON after a bill, the incomplete quarter attracts no discount. You should therefore switch immediately after a bill, during the summer, to minimise the units charged without discount.0 -
The discount is applied on EVERY bill. Also the Saveonline 2 tariff DOES give the discount on the final bill. (As far as i am aware it is the ONLY EON tariff that does this)0

Are you sure about this? Taken from the T&C's:
"If you switch supplier before the date set out in your plan the E.ON SaveOnline Discount will not be applied to your final bill."0 -

There used to be a saveonline tariff before the saveonline 2 tariff. The original did not apply the discount. The Saveonline 2 does have the discount applied to final bill according to the information i have.
(I work for EON but all information is my own opinion)0 -
Thanks very much for the replies.
I've been running the numbers, if the discount is applied on a quarterly bill and there is no discount on the final bill, with my usage there are still scenarios where I could lose more exiting from this tariff than EDF's £50 exit charge.
However if the discount is definitely applied on the final bill if I switch away, that effectively means there's no stealth lock-in and that makes it fairly clear this is the best tariff for me.
I'll just call and double check that though and see what the call centre thinks.0 -

Hopefully one of the E.ON reps will post on here tomorrow and clarify the situation.0
