I received my letter yesterday. No surprise at the content as I already knew from the T&C's that after 31 July 2010 the prices would revert to the Standard tariff. Bit shocked at the sheer size of the increase though - would cost me an extra £140 a year, and I'm a well-below average user (Gas 16,186kWh and Elect 2,211kWh)

So I've used uSwitch to change to ScottishPower Online Energy Saver 10 Dual Fuel which is £56 cheaper than the present EDF Online v5, not forgetting the £50 Cashback!

I'm on Online V5 and received the letter also. After checking with uSwitch, I've decided to move to edf's Online Saver V6. I'm not happy about doing it, but the switching process last time I used it was very unsatisfactory - edf didn't pay out quidco, it took about 10 weeks and I was initially put on the Standard tariff rather than V5. This switching hassle I can do without.

Anyway, has anyone switched from edf V5 to any other supplier and kept the v5 rate during the switchover? I was told today by edf that automatically I would be put on Standard tariff on Aug 1st, unless I started a new contract with them before July 31st. I thought that if you gave a supplier notice of moving away because of price increases then you kept your tariff during the switchover, but edf says "No".

So, the combination of Standard tariff for say 10 weeks plus the switchover hassle, locked me in with edf! I'm not happy with this, and in May/June 2011, I'll try to plan my edf exit strategy!! Any tips would be welcome.

    Cheers

    Mel

Kicked EDF into touch last night and went for Scottish Power which has the best cashback (£42) for a single fuel despite a £30 cancellation fee.

I'll just use candles and wash in cold water from 1st August until the switch takes place (4-6 weeks).. now where did I put that wind-up radio?

I also switched to Scottish Power two days ago. Sure there will be arguments to come over the amount of monthly direct debits, but I no longer want to be with EDF. I used uSwitch via Moneysavingexpert, and should eventually get £50 cash back and the free case of wine. Nearly fell into the trap of going straight back to uSwitch.
remember to send EDF a reading on 1st.August and keep an eye on usage - and cancel direct debits. I know last time I had two companies taking direct debits and had a long wait for a refund.

I wouldn't base anything on Nectar points - I was getting about £10 a year out of EDF on this so its not a big factor. EON give you Tesco points, but again they ain't worth much.

Don't think the fact that EON don't give you discounts on your last bill is a factor either. You're in the same position with EDF. If you switch away from EDF V6 before the tariff ends you'll get the cancellation charge so you'll have to wait till it finishes. During the period of switching (4-6 weeks) you'll be on their standard tariff i.e same position as EON.

I've decided to switch to EON, virtually no difference in price, no cancellation charge, a energy 'fit' monitor, which looks like a nice boys toy and £55 cashback. Will review in the Autumn after my first bill, and have the freedom to move elsewhere if needs be (maybe back to EDF, with more cashback !)

Thanks Mr K - your post made me think again and I have now switched to EON.

I've just done the comparison and would save £34.73 by switching to EON Save Online V2. Can't see anything about a penalty clause, is that right?

    Optimist what is Quidco?

An alternative to Quidco is topcashback which has no £5 annual subscription fee, a highest cashback guarantee, top-up loyalty bonus and better customer service:

Sorry haven't had chance to read the whole thread. I am still in the middle of my contract with EDF, signed up a few months ago. Does this mean they've changed the contract and I'm free to switch if I find a cheaper one, or can they change the contract and I'm still tied in?
Moving onto a better place...Ciao

Am I the only one here who thinks it is immoral (and not far off illegal) for EDF to give me 5 days notice of increasing my tarriff by over 15% ?

I only got a letter this morning about the change in my online v5 tariff costs, and I honestly had no idea this was coming otherwise I would have done somethign about it sooner.

Will be changing over to someone later today (don't know who yet), but I always thought that companies had to give at least 30 days notice of any detrimental changes to a contract, not 5 !

I think the original T&C's when you signed up stated the tariff would end on 31 July 2010 so I dont think they were oblidged to give any notice at all.

I, like many others, had just forgotten that.

Actually, I signed up to the online v5 tarriff in 2007 and at that time there was no such end date in the T&C's.

Apparantly, after chatting to EDF, the end date was added to the T&C's in 2009, but I am 99% certain that I was never informed of any new T&C's last year, so as far as I can tell, I signed up to the old style T&C's and should have still been on them.

Anyway, it's all irrelevant now, as I am leaving EDF, and will be remaining on the online v5 tarriff until the switchover to my new supplier takes place (6-8 weeks).
