Anyway, it's all irrelevant now, as I am leaving EDF, and will be remaining on the online v5 tarriff until the switchover to my new supplier takes place (6-8 weeks).

Hi Kevin. Interesting.... I assumed we'd all be on the standard tariff from 1st August until we switched as the V5 would cease to exist from 31 July.
If the ball had gone in the net it would have been a goal.

My understanding from the Ofgem (consumer's direct) guy is that I had to make a formal complaint to EDF and get a complaint reference number from them and inform them that I am switching supplier from EDF, and then EDF will agree to maintain my current rate until my new supplier takes over.

I telephoned EDF, did all of this, and they have agreed to keep me on my current rate, which I suppose is different from being kept on the current tarriff as that won't exist after July 31st, but in theory EDF can apply any rate they like to an account, by either freezing my account (so no changes take place), or manually applying a rate, which again bypasses the tarriff ceasing.

I suppose it is up to EDF as to exactly how they manage it.
  • Had my letter :(

My electricity prices were increasing by 75% for primary units and 25% for secondary units. Gas increases were 12% primary and 2% secondary.

Switched to E.on last night for a saving of £210 per annum, plus £55 Quidco and the free energy saving monitor.
I much prefer E.on's online account management, EDF's online system is terrible. I also prefer E.on's single billing approach compared to EDF's keep it all separate and insist on having paper bills.

I was with EDF for a year and am happy to be going back to E.on especially when I will also be saving 25%.

I thought Quidco were in trouble ?

A week after sending EDF a message through their web site they have replied by e.mail claiming they rang me (naming the person) and discussed and agreed that I would switch to Online v6. Bit strange ? I have had no phone calls at all in that time. Too late now anyway.
  • Just seen this thread. I have the same letter and I have to say I'm very annoyed.

I've phoned them up and changed it to Online Saver 6 and the unit prices had better not change before the end of June next year. If it does, I'll transfer to another supplier - if they attempt to try and charge me the £50 I'll report them to OFGEM.

I wouldnt mind as much if the letter said, sorry your deal is about to end and the prices will go up but here are some other options, but no it was a deceitful, immoral letter that tried to disguise a 70% increase as a 2% saving.

The elderly are particularly at risk here and to quite a lot of people the letter would come across as a saving. I hope Watchdog et all take this up.

Poor show by EDF - they had been fine up until this episode.

mattr-take a pill my friend and listen. 2 things about online saver 6-

It is NOT a fixed rate deal but a discount of 2% of thier standard prices. They may or may not change your tariff but they CAN if they want.

Also, if you leave online saver 6 before 30th june 2011 you will pay a cancellation fee of £50 and that's a fact.

The rest is just your own opinion with which i happen to agree with some parts off.
  • I can accept the price increase. I resent the way the letter is worded - the wording is unacceptable.

As with others I'm annoyed with the letter and weighing up my options. Online Saver 6 comes out cheapest for me but cashbacks would bring E.ON to less. However it's offset a bit by having to pay the standard tariff until I switch.

Not sure if I'm reading this correctly, but in the Online Saver 5 Terms there is the following clause:
    8. Once the Online S@ver Version 5 Tariff ends on the End Date, each participating Customer hereby agrees for each of their energy accounts under the Online S@ver Version 5 Tariff to be
automatically transferred onto EDF Energy’s standard tariff product at such time, or such alternative product that EDF Energy considers to be an appropriate product for the Customer’s metering arrangements. EDF Energy will write to the Customer within 65 working days of the End Date (the “Notice”) to confirm this agreed transfer has taken place. If the Customer subsequently changes its mind and wishes to be supplied on an alternative EDF Energy product after the End Date they may contact EDF Energy on 0800 096 9000‡ at any time within 28 days of the Notice to request its energy accounts are transferred onto an alternative EDF Energy product and in these circumstances EDF Energy will update the Customers account with their chosen product with effect from the End Date.
Does that mean within 65 days of moving you onto the standard tariff they have to write to you and you can choose an alternative tariff and it is back dated to the End Date?

If that is the case if I go to the Online v6 tariff there shouldn't be any period where I have to pay the Standard tariff?

Also could someone provide a bit more detail on the alternative of staying on the Online v5 tariff while I switch if I make a complaint because that is what I feel like doing.
