I think that it's fair to say that Mobileshop.com have had a pretty good reputation for cashback until sometime earlier this year when they stopped paying out.
Before then, they had excellent communication, always emailed you within days of receiving your voucher and again when payment was made, and also accepted photocopies of bills rather than originals, so you could avoid sending them recorded delivery (simply send another copy if it went lost). Many people on internet forums would recommend them, myself included.
After their 'technical problem' it all seems to have gone belly up. There are pages of angry customers on threads such as this who have not got their cashback and the only reports of successful payouts seem to be after threats of legal action. Their communication seems to have been abominable, giving the impression that they have 'shut up shop', creating concern that they may go out of business and we all lose our cashback.
My own experience is that I was very satisfied until about April, when my February cashback was due, but not paid. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited a while. Nothing happened, and I did not chase it up until last week. I sent a strongly worded email explaining that I expected action or at least a plausible explanation. I did not have to threated legal action, although I alluded to this in the email. Their response was quick - two vouchers paid out immediately. There is only one voucher outstanding, and it only actually became due yesterday, so after I sent my email.
My conclusions? I don't know what is going on at Mobileshop.com. They have gone from great customer service to appalling lack of communication. But I can't work out if they are genuinely trying to swindle us all, if they're about to go bust or not! The fact that they still pay out when pushed suggests that they are still trading and maybe they are just dealing with a bad situation in a very inept way. I can't decide whether or not to trust them or not, but I think that it is possible to get your money, so keep trying!0 -
Hi Folks,
Just an update on my situation - despite threatening legal action (recorded letter) MS are ignoring my letters/ e-mails. I am now starting a claim, anybody else been paid recently?

Thanks, but unfortunately I have already had the joy of dealing with this crowd. Had to make some legal threats to get cashback 2 & 3 paid, now waiting on the final one. The P1 deal I was thinking of going for didn't involve cashback so should have been relatively safe, but in the end I have sourced a P1 sim free from elsewhere. Now just need to get a t-mobile 12 month free deal from anyone but mobileshop and I will be good to go.0 -
I'm in the same boat. been waiting 190days and 102days for the payment of my 3rd and 4th vouchers. Contacted them several times and always get told of their problems and everything having to get entered manually.
I have now had enough and have emailed them and am now in the process of sending a letter informing them of small claims court proceedings if payments are not made in the next 14 days.
However I did notice they have changed the wording of their Terms and Conditions with regards to the 60 days payment period and it now states the following
*Please note the change in terms and conditions.
We will aim to process all payments 60 days after the expiry date of your voucher.
Can this therefore still be qouted in the letter or is the use of the word 'aim' their get out clause for (very) late payments?

I also sent a threatening letter informing mobileshop that I would pursue the claim in court and indeed they payed up within 7 days of the threat.
However, a friend of mine who has now waited in excess of 190 days since his claim is unfortunately having to pursue the claim in court because mobileshop will not pay his valid claim.
So it seems the court threat works for some but not for others.
can confirm this ... looks like I'm going to have to issue the County Court claim as they have not even responded in anyway to the "seven days before legal action" mail I sent them.
worth trying live chat one final time ???0 -

I highly recommend this approach but if you don't fancy legal proceedings, I received a letter from Juliette Yeardley ACCA who is Financial Controller so you might want to write or try to speak to her directly.

Can you PM me some further information on this.
Never issued a claim before - is it really straightforward? What information do you need about the company you are claiming against etc. etc.0 -

Even more reason(if we needed anymore) to not go back to mobileshop.0 -

I'm really fed up with mobile shop. I have 3 cashback claims outstanding, my 1st one was paid the others have not been. I have tried everything, I have sent emails, telephoned and wrote threatening letters. I have been on-line chat and spoke to Carole who gave me the usual rubbish about the system crashing and that I would be paid eventually, but still I haven't received a penny. I have today filed a court action with the small claims court, so maybe this will get me my money!!!
I have to say that Mobile Shop has to be the worst company I have ever dealt with, the whole cash back offer is a load of rubbish, I have truly learnt a lesson here, there is no such thing as a 'free deal'. If anyone reads this and have been tempted by mobile shop's offers - DON'T.0
