Yesterday I was round my friends house and I got to speak to the person who is now sadly been laid off by mobileshop and was asking them all about this. There has never been any computer problems, this was just an excuse to delay the claims. There has been an off the record policy of only paying people who complained continuously or took them to court.
Has a company ever gone from being the best to the worst in such a spectacular fashion?0 -
Of course - you know who!0

If they do go bust I must admit that they lasted longer than I expected. It is just a shame that there will be many customers who are cheated out of their cashbacks.
Indeed; they survived as long as they did by basically reneging on all cashback claims unless threatened with a FLBA.
Awful as there will be many people out there who would have baulked at taking legal action against a corporate entity.
And Mobileshop knew that.
It was a calculated act, premeditated and cruel.

If you check their website http://www.valuecomparisonltd.co.uk you can see nearly all their customers are actually mobileshop.com
Are these "customers" the same ones who were writing glowing testimonials on Mobileshop's website which contradicted everything real people were experiencing? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Almost all of these happy "customers" had exotic sounding names but we won't go there because there are some sensitive souls on here who scream "racist" at such an innocent observation. You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take - Wayne Gretzky

I'm not going to defend Mobileshop because they are a hassle to deal with, but I just wanted to say that I did finally get all of the money that they owed me.
So if anyone still has outstanding cashback claims, don't hesitate to send those threatening letters. Mobileshop clearly still has the money to pay out. In a few months time, they may not. So don't put it off too long.0 -
We bought from them because my friend used to work in their call centre department and got us a good contract with freebies. Big mistake we struggled to get our cash back just like many others.
She was made redundant like nearly every other member of staffs who worked there. The head office is up for sale and they are doing a flit anytime soon from what she has heard. There are only a handful of people left working for the company with more being booted out by the day, just in time for Christmas!!! It looks like they are fading fast and moving things into other company names and setting up other web sites.
She said that there were never any computer problems and her and the other call centre staff were fed a script and made to tell the "customers" these thigns to try and get out of paying the money out.
All of the staff that originally set up the company and what made it work with good honest customer service were made redundant as they did not agree with the way things were being run so they were all got rid of!!!!!
Big shame as this was once a very good company that was famous for good deals and great service. Shame that greed took hold and the customers and staff were the ones to suffer!!!!!!!0 -
I did get all of my cashback in the end, each time a payment was due I had to email the cashback manager and threaten legal action to get my money.
Many thanks to the folks on this thread who posted the info which enabled me to get the money owed.0 -
I'd just like to add my voice to the clamour of complaints about mobileshop. 6 months after the end of my second contract I gave in and accepted the gift card for the final 2 claims. Admittedly there has been no problem as it came quickly. It's worth bearing in mind that that if you are self employed the gift card is more tax effective as you can claim your mobile contract against tax.
However we are still pursuing my wife's claim (due August 08) with no result so far. We are both currently with vanilla mobile (accessed via mobileshop's site) who pay promptly by cheque. Sadly Carphone seem to have closed vanilla down but that does not affect the cashback - whose staff are really nice on the phone.
I'll be looking for a good cashback in a couple of months - any suggestions?0 -
Yes. Don't wait until you need it and avoid all cpw companies like the plague.0

As an update, mobileshop.com are still paying cashback as of 26 Jan.
After almost 2 years of fruitless emails offering me vouchers I'd given up on getting the cash, but a threatening email using some of the advice from this thread sorted me out with £300 hard cash into my account!
Thanks for the help.0
