Why do they have to shout all the time?!

The OP doesnt live entirely on their own either so cant see why she and her boyfriend cant go round and ask the neighbour nicely to let them know when they are having a bbq.

At the same time perhaps the OP could let them know exactly what kind of burgers are acceptable for them to burn?

To all these posters telling the OP to "just ask them nicely", they are making the fundamental assumption that these are reasonable people. The way I'm reading it they are anything but - I'd say "nasty" is a more apt word.

Although you live in London Lynz, there is a far more cosmopolitan ethos there, and everyone expects to be shoulder to shoulder with the weird, wonderful and wacky, same as I found on visiting New York last year. I don't know what part of the UK the OP lives in, but other than in major conurbations antisocial families stick out like a sore thumb. They have already demonstrated that they don't give a damn about anyone but themselves, and I would lay money on a "polite request" either being completely ignored or escalating the objectionable behaviour.

Okay, environmental health as a last resort, but only because it might blight an attempt to sell up. Unless the OP knows a group of lads who she could hire as rent-a-mob I think she is sensible not to go for the direct approach.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

DKLS, there is a massive difference between children playing in the garden and horrendous domestic violence?

There is a big difference, but they also have a screaming toddler, and the poor mother who has a voice like a foghorn.
None of them seem able to communicate with each other at a normal conversational level of volume, its constant shouting.

I think bogofbabe is right. In my last house I had to have a polite word to a neighbour regarding a loose dog that was frightening the kids, I just wanted them to keep the dog on their own premises. As a result we were practically prisoners in our own home, whenever we left the house he would shout abuse at us and frighten the kids. We had to move in the end. And I was very polite and diplomatic, and yes they were very chavvy.

Im sorry you had to close the windows mine are open as the kids next door are in school, its horrible having to do things like open windows, hang washing around the neighbours activities when they do as they please when they please

    thanks for understanding.

I still fail to see why you can't go round and try to speak to them? The worst you'll get is a mouthful of abuse right?

From what you have said so far, I'm still not picking up that they are the neighbours from hell to be honest. Sure their kids play noisily (which children tend to do!) and sure they might not talk to each other the way you'd like. but that doesn't make them a clan of ogres does it?

I personally would rather speak to them face to face than either torture yourself in silence or go to the rediculous lengths of going to the environment health and recording them.

All in all whilst I still cannot see where you are coming from Helena, I really do hope the situation resolves itself for you one way or another.

I still strongly advise you speaking to them- you might be pleasantly surprised.
