Before I buy a house, I plan to check on google satellite for how many blue circles are 'in range'. How come the parents never put the trampolines near their own house, but instead put them right on the boundaries???...some relative has just given them one of those massive trampolines, so I can';t even sit out enjoying a beer or eating my tea without heads coming over the level of the hedge and these kids giggling and grinning over the hedge like chad as they bounce up and down for hours.0

Oh yes, absolutely. To be fair, I hardly think it fair on the family to go wading in and speaking to the landlord if the OP hasnt had the decency to talk it over with the parents first?
No, we don't realise that IF it was an option it would have been done, the OP seems to think it's NOT an option, because she lives alone. Her choice, her decision, to be so constrained.turtlemoose wrote: »All you people who scoff at the problem and suggest the OP should just go talk to them?? Surely you realise if that was an option then it would have already been done....
But it's likely to be the first question asked by the landlord, the police or environmental health, who could also be asked to intervene, if the noise is loud enough. And if the first they know is the landlord saying "there's been a complaint", they're likely to be LESS happy than if the neighbour says "Would you mind ..."
A couple of summers ago, I became aware of a LOT of squealing and screaming from a nearby garden, it seemed to be next door, which was odd because as far as I knew their youngest was 14 or 15. Turned out they'd either bought new or found their old slide and paddling pool, so he and his mates were down the slide and into the pool. Over and over again.
Was it unpleasant? Yes. Would they have kept it down if I'd asked? Yes. Did I ask? No, but that was my choice.Signature removed for peace of mind0

Thank you and to add they are lucky to have me as a neighbour on both sides as im quiet and consideratethe_young_family_next_door? wrote:There's some kind of a recluse lives next door, we only see her when she's scurrying off somewhere, the kids say she shoots them evil looks if they are out in the garden at the same time as she is. It's not like our old place when the folk next door had kids our lot could play with, we used to take it in turns to have BBQs, they were great neighbours, they turned into great friends too. They still come and visit for BBQs though. We don't know why but this one next door doesn't even speak to us. Maybe cos she's not married herself, sometimes people resent us being so happy. We just tell the kids to ignore her now, not let her upset them and to carry on playing.
Sadly we can't move as we signed a 2 year lease with our landlord. We can't even do anything with the garden to get a bit of privacy for the kids as it's not our house. The house isn't really big enough for us, our saving grace is the garden is at least big enough to get the kids out playing in a bit of fresh air, they're much safer there than out playing on the streets...
OP, if you really can't stand the noise or the smell from their BBQ you will have to (get down off your high horse?) and go talk to them. There isn't much else for it. Communication is key. Alternatively you can rent out your house to someone else 'on benefits' and move somewhere that might turn out even noisier. If you don't speak to folks they're not going to know you have a problem. Yes, some people really are that obtuse, but there you go! Pluck up courage during the day when the kids are at school and go knock on their door.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Noise nuisance is a recognised public health offence, and the OP is well within her rights to feel aggrieved by it. It also isn't up to her to tackle the offenders, and I don't blame her for not wanting to, given the type of inconsiderate bolshie folk they seem to be.
If I were her I would try to make recordings of the noise, and keep details of times, dates and duration. Then approach their landlord, and if he is not sympathetic enough to act on it then take it to the environmental dept at her local council.
They sound like ASBO cases, and need to be made aware that they have responsibilities towards their community. I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe 0 0

Lol that is funny.what most families do? well if enjoying being together is hollering at each other and throwing in the odd F word infront of kids is good clean family life then yes make me a snob:rotfl:
Depends entirely on ones family - I dont recall any hollering at all. I do recall many times being told to "keep your voice DOWN".0

I live in Inner london in a postcode well known for its armed gangs, a large homeless population and a massive drug problem. Most flats seem to be pumping out heavy soca and ragga- you can tell its summer the noise gets high and people hang out in the estates a lot more, a lot later.
If OP cant have a conversation with the neighbour about the barbeque I think she would feel super intimidated where I live.

When I first moved here I thought it was a bit much, I was used to living in a much more genteel area. But I love it here now, its lively, interesting and is a community.
I think the homeless people live around here because many residents are so kind, I know that Im not the only person around her eto take food and clothing out to them.
people just rub along and tolerate the needs and wants of others and tolerance is a much under-rated quality these days I find. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Op you have my empathy, My wife beating neighbours are of a similar ilk, and they are not the sort of people that you can communicate with. The last time the neanderthal spoke to me was when he sneered over the fence "to mind my own effing business" the day after I reported him to the police for knocking 7 bells out of his wife.
We are focusing on sorting the bits we need in order to sell the house, and getting the hell out of here into a detached house, preferably detached by 1/2 a mile in all directions.0
