    Hi,

Just about to send off three letters (for three different people) to claim bank charges. This is the step 2 (first letter)of the suggested process.

Is it true that things are going to change in april though? Some financial law change or something? Can someone please confirm this vague rumour I heard or reassure that it's ok to keep claiming at present?

(Second question. Does anyone know what the least someone has tried to claim back for? Not sure if its worth claiming back for a remaining £60 unlawful charge. Possibly not, in effect its sending off a letter or two and getting £50 seems a nice deal especially when things are tight, but not sure if the bank would take the further court threats seriously from a small claimer!?)

Hi, Its my understanding that the bank has 40 days to respond from the first letter.
As for the royal mail saying letter hasn't arrived. I'd ring up regularly if worried maybe? Let us know how it goes.
Also I assume you sent the letter to your local bank(not its own 'bank' centre)? As that is what I'm about to do.

Good luck in your claim, don't panic, be cool, and keep watching martin on this clip for reasurance! (I will be I think!)

The first letter asking for your charges back you give them 14 days not 40 days. The 40 days refers to the DPA letter asking for your statements/information.
  • Hello everyone!

Please can you give me advice to my question, thanks!

I wrote to my bank asking for detailed charges over last 6 years. To date, I have had no reply, and my cheque has not yet been cashed. I visited another branch whilst paying a bill, and they put a 'note' onto my account requesting that this matter be attended to.

Can anyone tell me if this will affect the next step in the process of reclaiming the charges, as I know that the situation may change in April.

I am worried that my bank are just fobbing me off.

Thanks in advance to any advice/reply anyone may give me.

    Best wishes and thanks again.

Im a new addition to this forum,I live in Northern Ireland and am about to tackle Nationwide for many many bank charges, just wondering, does anyone know if the law which applies to England Wales and Scotland is the same for us? watched Martins video on the website on how to go about the reclaiming process but there were a few references to England Scotland and Wales so I am curious, thanks!

Have a look at this website for NI.

Can anyone help? i have on some occasions charges of a service charge £12 and a maintenance charge of £28 i bank with the rbs and the 40 pound appearson my statement as a charge to my account. Can i claim this back?

If you have a Royalties account with RBS you can't reclaim the monthly charge for this which is likely to be part of this total.

They have 40 days to provide the information but there is nothing to stop you reminding them that you haven't had it.

Please read Martin's post regarding the OFT's possible recommendation.

Give them a ring and ask. It could be because you are overdrawn each month and they then add on an amount depending on how many days you are overdrawn?
