I have not been to the said bar only top of the rock,i would imagine that you will have to purchase drinks or a meal to enjoy the use of the place.0 -

useful about bar65. Are you thinking of going just for the view which is free , but its a working restraunt and cocktail bar and I wouldn't encourage trying to get a sneaky peak . grab a drink and a seat and soak up the view for an hour .:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0 -

The teens (boy and girl) would no way agree to share a bed. Does anyone know of a fairly centrally located hotel that would give us a double and 2 singles in the same room? Not too costly if possible! Thanks
Couldn't you share one bed with your daughter and your husband and son in the other bed? It's only for a few nights and it's not like you'll have any 'private time' anyway if you're all sharing one room.2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

Hi Everyone, I've started reading through this thread as myself and my boyfriend and looking to take our first trip to NYC this December. I've started at the begining and am making note of all the tips however thought I'd post to try and get some more up to date info on hotels. We're looking to go for 8 nights (14th-22nd December) and ideally don't want to spend more than £1200pp on flights + hotel combined. I've checked on BA as I've used them previously and there's a fair few hotels that meet the budget however the flight times aren't ideal. VA are a bit too expensive. I've also checked Expedia who obviously have a huge selection of hotels and flights.
Now, my two questions are;
1. Would you recommend booking now? Or waiting a few months and seeing if prices drop nearer the time? I know some airlines do summer sales?
2. I'm not too picky about location as it's fairly easy to get around from what I understand and I just want a hotel that's clean and with a nice-ish bathroom but I REALLY want a nice view from the window. Am I being too idealistic for my budget? If not, any hotel recommmedations would be fab.
I've spent hours on Trip Advisor but fear I'm over thinking the decision as some hotels look fab but then have a couple of awful reviews. It's so hard to gauge. I'd love to hear a few reccomendations from people on here who have visited many times!
Apologies I know that was long winded but any help would be appreciated0 -
BA holidays can be great value, but also look at booking the flights and hotel separately. Norwegian often have good prices for flights. Google flights is great for seeing lots of options and the difference a day or 2 could make. Long Island City is a (relative) bargain for hotels, a number of them have Manhattan view rooms which are a little more expensive than their other rooms, but you!!!8217;ll get amazing views of the NY skyline, it!!!8217;s only a 5/10 min subway ride from Manhattan so I think it!!!8217;s a much better option than paying loads to be in Times Square and have a window facing into an alleyway.
BAs sale has just finished unfortunately. What I would do is have a look at flights, if they!!!8217;re under £400 id book, if not I!!!8217;d hold out hoping for a sale. You could also book a refundable hotel room now, then you know youve got it as a backup but can cancel and book something else if prices drop. New York!!!8217;s really at its best before Christmas, so you e picked a good time, but it!!!8217;s also a popular time so you might struggle to find a bargain.Save £12k in 2019 #360 -

It has been reported and they're are working on it.
Daisychainx - I would suggest looking at Jet2 because they do flights in December (but not all year round) and are quite cheap!Hi. We also stayed at the Roosevelt on our only trip to NY,great hotel in a good location for sightseeing,got a free upgrade to better/bigger room and free wifi:)
This is a late review. Hope your trip was good. Just to warn others I had a terrible experience with Super Shuttle. Took 4 hours to get to the hotel. I would get the train in future or taxi. I did end up getting my money refunded but it was a bad start to my holiday.0 -

Would you be able to give some information about Super Shuttle, please? Apart from cancelling, would there be any way around the problem? Was the problem getting on SuperShuttle, it being unreliable or was your hotel the last stop? I'm shocked that it could take so long.
Your complaint must have been justified to result in a successful refund.
I'll be glad to hear more from you about your experience, ceewash, thanks.

It was just very inefficient. It took about half and hour to arrive, the driver had gone to wrong terminal. It took an hour to get off the airport, had to stop for other passengers at another terminal. The driver went to find missing people. By that time we hit the rush hour, queuing through the tunnel. He then started uptown dropping people off at lots of diiferent hotels. Our hotel was down town in financial district. We had zigzagged through Manhatten forever, spoiling my son's first impression of the city. We had seen everything before arriving at hotel, some sights many times. This along with jetlag and the driver who was very defensive when asked , was a bad experience. I would definitely get the train in future. I don't exaggerate when I say it took 4 hours. Maybe we were just unlucky but I wouldn't do it again.0
