It was just very inefficient. It took about half and hour to arrive, the driver had gone to wrong terminal. It took an hour to get off the airport, had to stop for other passengers at another terminal. The driver went to find missing people. By that time we hit the rush hour, queuing through the tunnel. He then started uptown dropping people off at lots of diiferent hotels. Our hotel was down town in financial district. We had zigzagged through Manhatten forever, spoiling my son's first impression of the city. We had seen everything before arriving at hotel, some sights many times. This along with jetlag and the driver who was very defensive when asked , was a bad experience. I would definitely get the train in future. I don't exaggerate when I say it took 4 hours. Maybe we were just unlucky but I wouldn't do it again.
Thanks ceewash - not encouraging although very worthwhile knowing. Thanks for posting.

Just out of curiosity what was the cost of the shuttle transfer? i know you got your money back but we used a taxi, not very money saving but as first time in NY with my wife, luggage, paperwork etc in tow it was so much easier than trying to haul suitcases etc up staircase at subway station that might not have an escalator, thats if we were at the correct station:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Think it was about $40. I have been to NYC several times so I am familiar with the trains and subway. Maybe if it's first time I would get a taxi. Think I was quoted about $70 for taxi.0

I would pay it. We actually lost our first evening as we were so tired and a little bad tempered after the journey. We just had a quick bite to eat and went to bed.0

In Martins New York guide there is no detail on the best place to buy Broadway tickets, but it directs people to newyorktheatreguide site.
Admittedly this is for FAQ's but one assumes this is a good site if you include a link. The site lets you search for tickets and shows them at a decent price. However when you get to the payment page the prices increases with extortionate fees. For $55 tickets it added $20.90 each, making the fees £83.60. I then went on Ticketmaster, where the same tickets only had fees of $33.20.
This site overcharges, and so look for ones with lower fees.0 -

We almost did the same thing,we travelled from Newcastle in the morning to Heathrow then on to JFK,on arrival at the Roosevelt hotel we decided to go for a drink and some food, the people in the bar said do not go to bed early as you will not sleep,we stayed up late but still woke up at 4 am as our bodies thought it was time to get up:rotfl::rotfl:0 -
Has anyone stayed at the Westin grand central hotel? Would it be suitable for a family with three teens in September?0

Location is quite good. What sort of rooms would suit you? How old will your oldest teen be in September?

Hi all
I know i ask this everytime i go, but has anyone found anywhere that does free cash withdrawals. TD bank used to. No longer. PNC used to... no longer. I tend to get money out of HSBC as they charge the least amount to do this.
Is there a new secret i may have missed?0
