Ok so no-one rang me as per usual. But I have now spoken to a supervisor and they are taking me off Gold and putting me back on Silver on a new 12 month contract for £9.99. So I am happy! They wanted me to pay £14.99 until I mentioned the £9.99 which I got from this thread. So thanks!Total debt May 2005 £83,232

I've been with aol for many years & always been quite happy with them, originally with dial up & then silver broadband when it launched. I've just rang customer services on the freephone number after reading this thread & got transferred to the £9.99 package, having been paying £17.99. :j
I'm really chuffed to have got my costs cut & thanks to those who posted info here about being able to get a lower rate. :TThe bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
Trying to decide between AOL Silver with free router at £14.99 per month or AOL Silver without router for £9.99 per month.I want wireless so wondering if I should buy a router and go onto £9.99 deal or go for £14.99 deal and after 12 months see if I can change to the £9.99 as I would not want to continue paying £14.99.Any thoughts anybody.Regards

No brainer! Go for the cheapest monthly rate and buy your own router. It's not free is it, as you would be paying £60 for it.

Why? The cheapest modem router I could find on ebuyer is £45 (inc delivery) ... and if you take the £15 a month deal over the net, you can use quidco which gives £45 cashback.
I wonder if you could phone up just before your 14 day cooling off period and moan a little and get the £9.99 on top.0 -

I will most likely do this as well for my friend .... during my student years i got 12 months of free dialup over 3 summers. Its easy to moan with AOL with such good incentives easily available.
May I suggest you wait till about day 10 of your cooling off period and then say your experience so far has been slow0 -

As I am already with AOL on dial up I don't think I would qualify for the quidco £45 cashback as presumable offer is for new customers.
Also, if I buy my own modem/router not sure how easy it would be to set up with AOL and there would be no support for this from AOL.Regards

I have just had a look at Aols site, it says that if you are transferring from another broadband provider there is no monthly contract for Aol Silver with free wireless router for the £14.99 package (and one month free), this being the case do you thing after a month could you phone up and ask to be transferred to the £9.99 deal?? May be worth a go, have to say that i am thinking about doing this now as Vigin net have really peed me off recently0

I just noticed .... but it appears the first month is free at £14.99. Therefore ....
it works out at exactly £10 a month with quidco + free wireless router worth £50.
erb - I would sign up again as new customer and use a different debit card. As far as I remember from my student days (constantly using free trials), they check by card number and not address or telephone number.
PS My mate just signed up and it was on his quidco within 20 mins.0
