Crabman I been with them since 2000, not sure if you can get the £9.99 offer through quidco and then phoning them to renegotiate.
Seems that all appear to have got the offer by phoning them as far as I know.
However, if you know someone using AOL you can maybe get them to recommend you, AOL send you a cd, you have to use that particular cd and after you have been using aol continuously for 45 days, both you and your friend who nominated you get £25 each.
Worth a try and sorry can't be of any more help.
Regarding your query about modem locked to AOL network - no it's not. Also not sure if 1mb will be enough for you depends on your usage I suppose. I don't play games on line, so that might affect things, others might be able to help you with that one.0 -
Sign up online. Get £45 cashback through quidco. Now lets do the math
14.99x 12= 179.88 - 45 = £134.88
You will get a free Netgear wireless router.
Offer via phone 9.99x 12 = £119.88
I think No wireless router with this offer.
Difference between the 2 offers = 134.88 - 119.88 = £15
So you will get the Netgear router for £15
And don't forget there is 1 month free so in real terms 14.99x 11 = 164.89 - 45 = 119.89 = 9.99 per month
And remember you will be tied for 12 months and deprived of your freedom of movement.

I can't find their full terms and conditions but I read that if they ever change their policies, e.g. "unlimited" transfers then they give the opportunity to change provider.
E.g. when they changed from 0800 to 0870 number they gave 30 days for people to leave AOL, and I was one of them. I just can't find the T&C's anywhere0 -
It's ok I found the clause - basically if they change their agreement then they have to give 30 days notice and if a member disagrees then he/she can cancel without penalty. Woop Woop I've signed up and got m'cashback too
:T
It's an ok deal even if it's only 1MB, but then that's loads compared to crabman's dial-up

i've been on aol silver for a few months .
Just rang them and said " i hear that £9.99 is available" .. he replied " yes , no problem we'll transfer you on to that rate now.
Starts another 12 month period but that's ok by me.

Hi
just wondered if anyone had views on this - I keep reading that aol in america are about to announce that their broadband service will become free as they are losing so many customers - personally I've been with aol for many years and renegotiated £19.99 pm for silver 4 months ago (so 8 months of contract left) but now feel, with free sky and talktalk, that the time could be approaching when I finally ditch aol (I've opened a yahoo email in exactly the same name except the @yahoo.co.uk at the end!); I've even transferred all my favourite sites into explorer (wireless means I can already 'ignore' the aol software if I wish) so now I'm counting down the months left on my contract but.......a free aol would be happy days for me (yes I know all the negatives about the software but its generally been fine for me and the kids - now almost grown up - have loved their personalised front pages). Added to the above are rumours of aol uk being sold so perhaps I should just sit tight and let 'market forces' do their work over the remainder of my 8 month contract?
What do other long serving/suffering aol users think?0 -
I'd wait out the 8 months and see what happens, I think that thre will be more of these offerings coming upEx forum ambassador

I'm v cross with AOL yet again. Back in June I had no broadband for over 2 weeks due to a fault at their end. When I was finally reconnected I was put on gold, rather than silver which I'd been on. I assumed it was some compensation for having no access for 2 weeks. Today I have found out that my next bill is for £24.99!! For Gold for 1 month. Tried on line help, he told me to ring customer services, which I did. After hanging on for ages as usual, I was told a supervisor will be ringing me between 7 and 8 tomorrow night to discuss. Obviously I will wait to see what they say, but there's no way I'm paying that much when I didn't even ask for it! I'm out of my 12 month contract so will just ask to leave if they won't play ball.Total debt May 2005 £83,232
