Hi everyone. Am after a bit of advice.

I've been on Platinum since 2005 paying £29.99. I just rang and asked for my MAC code as I was planning to move to MAAF. I'd already been offered Silver at 14.99 which I didn't want.

This is the package they offered me today:

At AOL, we are committed to offering our members the right choice of packages at the right price. So, we've increased the speed of AOL Broadband Platinum up to 8mbps.

AOL Broadband - No Hidden Costs and No Download Limitations

We have a straightforward approach to Internet access which is why you'll continue to pay just one flat rate monthly fee with no hidden costs, no matter how long you spend online.

AOL Broadband Platinum - ( UPTO 8 MB) Now only £9.99 per month
At up to 40x the speed of dial-up AOL Broadband Platinum will provide superior connectivity and performance. Its speed also means that our more advanced features, like Video Instant Messenger*, exclusive football and music streaming, perform significantly better.

It's a twelve month contract but that I don't mind so much. He also mentioned that I'd get free evening and weekend calls which I'm not getting at the moment.

When I asked how he was able to give me this offer he said something about AOL having their own network in my area. Does anyone know what that means?

Basically, being the suspicious sort I am, I'm hesitant in case I'm making a big mistake. Can anyone offer any advice?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Mola x

I have just upgraded my £9.99 Silver Package to a 8 MB Platimum Package. The wordings are standard as per your message, however I have also received this:

AS PER OUR TELEPHONIC CONVERSATION You HAVE GOT BROAD BAND PLATINUM @ 9.99 FOR 12 months.

FREE EVENING & WEEKEND CALLS FOR A YEAR AND THE 3.99.
I hope this helps everyone to upgrade to AOL Platinum.
As they say "you don't get if you don't ask"

Yep, that's the one I got. And I've gone for it too. I can't really knock £9.99 a month, especially when the calls package is thrown in too. I was going to be paying 16.99 with MAAF so now I don't have the hassle of switching either.

Hope everyone manages to get a similar good deal!

    hi,
Phoned AOL on 08002006046 and asked for the 9.99 deal as my 12 months contract finished last month and i am paying 17,99, been inform that I can not get the 9, 99 as the only deal at the moment is 14.99, asked for a manager - who told me to contact cancellation dep as they can deal with this differently - phone no 08703202020
Anyone out there with some ideas how to get the 9.99 deal from AOL?
What is best to say to them? Or what not to say
I think I’ve done the whole conversation wrongly asking up front for the 9.99 deal

    Hi Zynto,

I tried on-line and they told me that the £9.99 deal IS available
but they are not authorised to offer it.
They told me that you have to ring tho 0870 number which I dislike.
I was forced to ring that number but got the RESULT.
You will probably get the Indian call centre.
I spoke to a very friendly girl called Tripti who gave me the deal.
Stay polite but firm and you WILL get the deal.
Tell her or whoever you speak to that "your friend has just
signed up for the deal and has got it."
You will have to sign up for their landline phone package
    @ £3.99 per month.
I told them that I was already signed up with Primus for 12 months.
She said to cancel the landline deal with AOL when it comes
and the Internet deal will still be valid.

    I hope this is helpful.

    Good luck and Happy Bargaining.

I didn't have to sign up for the £3.99 AOL talk package - it was offerred for free, so total cost to me is £9.99 per month:

AOL Platinum, 8 Meg, unlimited download
    Free evening & weekend calls
I paid £25 for the Netgear Wireless router
    12 month minimum contract
The £9.99 cost is apparently for life and will not increase as long as I remain with AOL

The chap at the call centre told me this offer was only available to customers with AOL since 2005 onwards. Up until now, I have been on AOL Silver.

Just to note, there is no LLU in my area, but was still offered the platinum package.
