Hi everyone. Am after a bit of advice.
I've been on Platinum since 2005 paying £29.99. I just rang and asked for my MAC code as I was planning to move to MAAF. I'd already been offered Silver at 14.99 which I didn't want.
This is the package they offered me today:
At AOL, we are committed to offering our members the right choice of packages at the right price. So, we've increased the speed of AOL Broadband Platinum up to 8mbps.
AOL Broadband - No Hidden Costs and No Download Limitations
We have a straightforward approach to Internet access which is why you'll continue to pay just one flat rate monthly fee with no hidden costs, no matter how long you spend online.

AOL Broadband Platinum - ( UPTO 8 MB) Now only £9.99 per month
At up to 40x the speed of dial-up AOL Broadband Platinum will provide superior connectivity and performance. Its speed also means that our more advanced features, like Video Instant Messenger*, exclusive football and music streaming, perform significantly better.
It's a twelve month contract but that I don't mind so much. He also mentioned that I'd get free evening and weekend calls which I'm not getting at the moment.
When I asked how he was able to give me this offer he said something about AOL having their own network in my area. Does anyone know what that means?
Basically, being the suspicious sort I am, I'm hesitant in case I'm making a big mistake. Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello
Sorry to be thick, but what does MAC stand for and why do you need it? What is it? My access code - guessing?0 -
The exchange will be LLU enabled and have AOL's own equipment in it, thats why they can offer the deal
Have a look here and it will tell who is available at your exchange http://www.samknows.com/broadband/phoneno.php0 -
There is a Sticky about New MAC rules at the top of this board. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Deanos - I have looked at my exchange - Chesterfiled - it is LLU enabled but i can't see AOL on any list - does that mean it wouldn't apply to me?
Thanks

Unfortunately AOL still use their problematic, slow, high CPU usage, poorly written login/browser software.
You can but you have to still login via their software though and minimise it.
you dont have to even have their software on your pc!!Bring back mark and lard NOW! or else (please) clique member no. 10 :j

LLU doesn't have anything to do with the £9.99 offer. AOL is so inconsistent with it's charges: everyone who was on dial up was offered broadband for £9.99, I have a few friends on this that are not LLU exchanges.
I've just left AOL, customer service is awful in the extreme and you'll get a different version of events and offers from each member of staff you speak too. Phone through the week (aviod India) and keep trying till you get an offer you like!
Now with MAAF and very happy, 3 times the speed of AOL with the sdame line and exchange, something AOL could not do despite the problem being highlighted several times.

The £9.99 offer from dialup was Silver thats what i am on , they are offering £9.99 platinum to people who have LLU exchanges if they threaten to quit0
