My current expreience with AOL ( I knew I shouldn't have gone to them
) I signed up on a migration from my original ISP on the 31 August (having already obtained my MAC) On the 15 September my ISP cancelled...AOL had failed to connect me on their 6-7 days from sign up. I contacted them and was told I would be connected in 4 days! I contacted them on the 19 September where I was informed my connection was enabled (not). I then contacted them again today whre I was informed my connection would be enabled in 5-7 days!!!!!!!!!!
I should have known better...for the last 7 years I have told people to avoid them, but from posts here I thought they had got better....I was wrong. at least, I sould be able to leave in a monthWelcome, rogerramjet.

I am in a similar boat, and want to get away from them ASAP.
But to get out of being tied in to a 12 month deal you have to cancel within 7 working days of being connected or receiving their "starter package" (their modem/router etc). Leaving after a month would be too late.
The catch 22 is getting a MAC from them - does anyone know if they issue one if you cancel during the "cooling off" period.0 -
I never liked them because of you having to install their software. I prefer ISP's which allow you to use your normal browser. I am currently with BT's 8mb service and I love it, touch wood no problems. However, the free BT home hub router which they sent me for free seems abit shabby as it will randomly restart itself, but I need it if I want free calls after 6pm via my broadband. I used to use a 2wire router (1800HG) which I would recommend indeed as it was EXCELLENT!0

Another urban myth! You don't have to install their software and you can use any browser of your choice!
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
hehe...update on my previous post...I rang them earlier and asked them why I still could ot connect...tech service said I can't answer this you need to speak to customer services...after 15 minutes wait I get customer service...I again expain my circumstances...they say I can't help you you need to speak to technical services...I remain polite (it was very hard to do) and say I've been on hold for 15 minutes, I've been on the phone for 30 minutes and you wnat to transfer me back to the people who sent me here...they say I cant help....I say (again politely) you cannot help me, I don't blame you...goodbye.
Hopefully my written and posted complaint will get further than my nightmare of ringing them.Welcome, rogerramjet.

As an AOL dial up member - I've just been sent an offer (online and in post) for £9.99 and free modem. Doesn't mention it being a wireless connection but not too bothered about that. So will probably take them up on offer.
Phoned a couple of weeks ago and the offer was £14.99 ( as per generally advertised).0 -

It would appear they do tell porkies when it comes to telling people they have been connected. I switched from AOL Dial up to BB last month after reading about how much I could save. They sent me the wireless router kit but I couldn't get it to connect though they assured me it had been switched to a BB line 5 days earlier. They concluded the router must be faulty so sent me another. 1 week later the new router arrived and I had exactly the same problem of not being able to connect. Again they assured me (at 9pm) the line had been switched, but would report the matter to BT. 8am next morning BT Open Reach Eng calls me on my phone telling me my BB line has now just been activated. I commented that surely it had been done 2 weeks earlier, he replied not and that his job order had it listed for connection today !!!!! So nothing wrong with the original router at all !!!
So much for AOL telling me it had been switched 2 weeks previously !
BUT I still have 2 routers and amazing as it may sound, when I rang AOL to advise them of this I was told "if you're not asked for it back within a week or two you may as well sell it" !!!!!!0 -
Can anyone help?
We have upgraded to broadband from dial up with AOL through NTL . Ntl came and fitted an AOL modem and do the cable stuff. They said we needed a disc and pin from AOL but nothing has arrived and I couldn't get very far on 0870.
How do I know if I am connected? The engineer left the ethernet cable unattached and the back of the modem has a sticky over the port saying do not connect yet. There are no instructions or anything with the kit.
Anyone know what I need to do?
Anyone know a free number that gets you through to Ireland instead of India.?0
