  • Be aware the Quidco payment is now down to £35.
  • Just thought I'd mention I got the £14.99 package with a free Netgear Router (advertised for new customers) after I complained to AOL that I was currently paying £17.99 for AOL Silver. My 12 month contract had run out so I was free to leave them at anytime, but as I like AOL and have had no trouble with them, so far, I decided to call them and demand I get this package and the router (it arrived today). They had no problem giving me the deal, although I had to sign for another year, which was no problem for me.
Also, just a quick tip, if you like AOL and pay your monthly subscription via their own credit card you will collect points each month, dependant on your package price. This entitles you to a free months internet each time you save enough points.
  • Can you go thru quidco and claim the money even if you're
migrating from another isp?.And you don't take aol up on their free modem offer. Thus just sign up to the monthly contract?

Finally i was only with aol a few months back, would this affect me getting a month free etc?

    cheers

I finally got round to calling AOL today. The guy I spoke to claimed they had now stopped the 9.99 deal to new customers and they were aware of the discussion going on in here (evening AOL:rotfl: )

I did say one or two friends got this deal and was asked for phone numbers. I got the feeling that If I had actual details of somene who had this deal I may have been in luck. Is it worth me trying again tomorrow?

I did try again today and got the £9.99 deal with first month free. I was dealing with the Indian call centre if that makes any difference.

I guess the only thing i am worried about is if ail pull the same trick on me they did last time i joined...
I was with F2S on an 8mb line but aol downgraded back to a 2mb line.I was stuck on a 2mb line for weeks and it took about 3 hours of calls to India to sort it out.
Ohterwise the speed was good, but with all the hassle i left...

    Hi all

i feel AOL are charging me a lot compared to other providers. I don't like ringing them though as i find i repeat myself an awful lot with their incomprehensible staff...and on 0870 number it makes me cross.

Any ideas on what to do?

  • I'd just like to clarify a few things with AOL, we have been with AOL silver for a fair few years now and always had to use their rubbish software to access the internet. We kept on having problems, random disconnections etc.

(and could only have one computer on at a time as we had no network)

So recently I bought a wireless router for my student house and tried it at home, after getting the details for the wireless connection to input into the router info box it worked better than before. It really was 24hour no disconnections or whatever, it was more stable and more reliable.

The AOL offer came out (12 months @ 14.99) so joined that got the free wireless router, threw away the CD's that came with it (that force you to use the AOL software), and it still works fantastic. I feel sorry for those AOL users that don't know they can access AOL without using the software, as it really is dreadful (hogs resources, and some how affects the connection).

Anyway most wireless routers are fully compatible with AOL just get the info from here: http://www.wifigear.co.uk/article_info.php?articles_id=34

    Hope that helps

(Since going wireless and not using the software we have had no reason to call up the rubbish customer support, which we did have to before, quite a lot!)

  • I just called AOL and the operator didn't seem to have a problem with silver for £9.99, BUT when I wanted to refer a friend she said I needed to do it with a CD, that my friend would have to send me. I couldn't just give his details over the phone. That's nonsense, right?
