looks like they threatened to cancel... though sometimes AOL will let you cancel, and not give in!0
-
yeah, exactly....but it is very scary...but think about the money, i just saved myself £55!!!!0
-
I also tried but the best I could get was 12.99 with 1st month free and free wireless router.... it was after I threatened to cancel. I didnt want to stetch it too far.
I will check my billing now. Hope that they have it on the system n I get charged 12.99 only for the 2nd month n so forthI wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T0 -
Since this thread began I've helped two people (one new connection and one migrated connection) to go to AOL.
I've been told now that the £9.99 deal is no longer available. Although I moaned down the phone at them and they did it anyway. The Indian call centre just took the order without caring what price I asked for, it was only the second time I felt like they accepted I could have it for £9.99.
The Indian chap dispatched a router and said my friend would be on a 12 month contract .... phoned the Irish call centre using their geographic number and complained. Notes have been put down that my friend should get the £9.99 deal and no contract ... been told to refuse the wireless router delivery.
Another thing that wound me up completely when doing this for them was the refer a friend deal. I been told by two people over the phone that the AOL Refer a friend CD is some kind of magic. You put it in the PC, install the s/w and select existing member (as you signed up over the phone and have an account) and the customer should still be able to enter the refer a friend code. Absolute tosh. I phoned and complained to say two Indians from their call centre and pretty much lied down the phone about this and they added £25 to both accounts instantly.
I seen AOL in action, its fine. I'd be happy to be on AOL if i was responsible for my internet connection!
This is such a good deal I'm surprised its not listed as one of the top money saving broadband deals. Especially the migration offer.
At the end of the day, I'd rather have: AOL Broadband, BT Line Rental Option 1, Primus Saver Option 2 and 1899 than be on a 18 month contract with Talk Talk. The cost is the same but the AOL route includes weekend & evening free calls as opposed to 24/7.0 -
It appears AOL is a law to itself, as are many other ISP's. Having needed to deal with the major mistakes AOL have made with my migration, the blatent lies I have been told by.....Colin, Alison, Martin, Amber and Aron...to name just a few I have spoken to since the 15 September regarding my migration problem (still not sorted) I find it amazing to believe how they continue to get away with thier lies (I even wrote a letter to them which has gone un-repied). I will add, in AOL's defence that getting hold of a customer service rep is easier (by about 20 minutes) with them than Pipex, but my expreience with just trying to migrate to AOHELL has been a bitter one which has resulted in my negative experience being passed onto other who may have wish to migrate or sign up to them (customers lost).
I would like to think the mistakes which have been made in relation to my migration to AOL are an isolated incident and genuine, however; having had first hand experience of many IPS's and the *errors* made by them, AOL seem very similar to many other ISP's in thier ploys to extract income by having *errors* which results in the customer needing to ring to get their "problem" resolved by ringing on a number which generates income for the company whom they ring.
Perhaps OFCOM should look into the poor customer services of ISP's and ask how, if you want to join you can get a customer services representative on an 0800 number in less than 10 seconds, yet if you want support/query it is on an 0870/0845 number wich can take a minimum of 10 minutes to connect and in my case with Pipex (AOL were quicker) over 28 minutes to speak to a human (I assume they were)
Welcome, rogerramjet.

I just moved down from Platinum to Silver as I am now approaching the end of my first month. On my statement there is a credit of £19.98 listed under "fee buy down". Anyone know what that is please?
Also listed under Price Plan is "Broadband Silver Interim £9.99" is this the same as everyone else has?0 -
Hi all - second post and I would like to share with you all to see how MSE has saved me money in the space of one hour and two phone calls !! If you subscribe to SKY or AOL this may save you a bit of cash !!
Over the next 12 months I will have saved £246.98 because of this site !!
Call One -
I rang SKY and this is what happened !!
Have been a customer for nearly 6 years on the top package and explained that I had been made a better offer. Chap needed a few minutes and came back to me and offered me a 25% discount for the next 12 months.
Total Saving - £130.50
Call Two -
Rang AOL knowing full well that our first 12 month contract for AOL Broadband silver is up for renewal. Explained that I had been made a better offer and what could they do.
Lady came back offering us AOL Silver at £9.99 per month indefinitely (unless it gets cheaper) and credited us with a free month too.
Total Saving - £116.48
I do realise that to be a true money saver I should have taken up SKY broadband (it's free!) and cancelled AOL but I see this as more of 'keep what you've got but pay less for it' exercise.
I must say that I was incredibly polite but firm with my calls and both times I found that the staff were not only very courteous but seemed pleased that they kept my business with a small incentive. Isn't this how business should be ?
£246.98 back in MY pocket and I'm just off to get my bank charges back !!!Thanks to MSE I cleared £37k of debt in five years and I was lucky enough to meet Martin to thank him personally.0 -
