No, there is no necessity to use AOL software - im with them and dont use it.
I however manager to get unlimited silver for £9.99 a month with AOL.
Also I have had all sorts of connectivity issues that AOl blame on Microsoft and I know its usually happened when they have updated software. How would I go about getting rid of their software. I have lots of companies that would be hard for me to change now, dont want to lose my email address?
Any good suggestions gazza0 -
Im also on Silver for £9.99 a month just ring up and ask to be put on it, simple0

i have spoken to aol tonight. a year ago you could not use silver and be on 3 computers together but you can now due to improvements!! however, trying to negotiate some money back for the fact that they have charged me for mcafee which i did not want does not seem to get anywhere and i can have aol silver at 9.99 but it means i have to be contracted to them for a year. i have been on aol gold for a year and my year is now up. any ideas on how to negotiate a better deal, eg aol silver with no tie in and a credit for the overcharge???? i have been with aol for 5 year altogether and must admit i dont really have many problems apart from sometimes getting disconnected (which i did put down to my computer, but on reading the threads seems it is aols fault!) i dont think they are really trying to keep a loyal customer!Just about to give up!0

Not true, the router connects to the ISP and then you can connect what you like to the router as that is part of your network, not theirs. They did not support networking on AOL Silver but that did not mean that it did not work!traceya89 wrote:however, trying to negotiate some money back for the fact that they have charged me for mcafee which i did not want does not seem to get anywhere and i can have aol silver at 9.99 but it means i have to be contracted to them for a year. i have been on aol gold for a year and my year is now up. any ideas on how to negotiate a better deal, eg aol silver with no tie in and a credit for the overcharge???? i have been with aol for 5 year altogether and must admit i dont really have many problems apart from sometimes getting disconnected (which i did put down to my computer, but on reading the threads seems it is aols fault!) i dont think they are really trying to keep a loyal customer!
Just keep trying until you speak to someone who will give you what you want, although if you are happy with their service and have been with them for five years, what is wrong with £9.99 per month for another year?
:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
I have just cancelled my £9.99 a month with AOL as they said that I could only have this if i signed up for another year, after 2 months of hell with AOL i cant wait to get rid of this company0

I just rang and mentioned I was on Silver and friends;) have a £9.99 package, i was told that it was because AOL have certain areas where they have more control of the telephony services. My area Peterborough do is not covered.
I was actually paying £17.99 and they have dropped me to £14.99.
Is this true the bit about the special offer only for certain areas?0 -

IMHO what they have told you is a load of Boswelox!!!! I live in Nottinghamshire and am about as far away from an exhange as is possible to get broadband, my exchange only has BT equipment at the moment (so cant get the free talk talk deals because of that) and I have the £9.99 a month without 12month contract. It might be that as they have just been bought by carphone warehouse/talktalk that they arnt so bothered about making their customer base look so large..... I would try again and see if you get a different operator, complain that lots of people have got this deal and that you are very unhappy at the injustice of it all etc etc
hope you get get somewhere with them
