ANY broadband connection will support wireless, its nothing to do with the connection or what package you are on, you just need the correct equipment and thats all
  • I have just contacted aol, and they have informed me that home networking on the silver package was only available after the 24th April this year!!!

    Support for home networking maybe!

AOL is only your ISP and you can do what you want in your own home i.e. create your own wireless or wired network.

That date may have been when they started to give away a free wireless router with the silver package but you had previously bought your own last year!

  • Yes I do understand what you are saying and we were on broadband silver last year and in dec last year we needed wireless and contacted them and were told by them that the only broadband service that would be compatable with wireless was their gold package as their silver would not work, this apparently was upgraded as of april this year enabling wireless, I dont know if this is right as we have always used their gold on wireless, so can anyone confirm that they have had wireless on their silver package before end of april this year, so I can get back to them.

I don't think that you would get anywhere now, if you do get back to them as you don't seem to understand that AOL is simply your ISP and your connection to the internet.

You do not have to install the AOL software onto any computer to use AOL as your ISP, providing you use a router to establish and maintain the connection. Once you have a router connected to your ISP (any ISP including AOL) you can then share this connection with any other computers etc. that you wish to, in your own home. Basically you did not do enough research and believed what you were told by their sales people!

They are fooling you by using the word "support".

What they meant by that was they wouldn't give you any technical support if you phoned them with problems with a wireless router.

Of course you could connect with a wireless router.

The best thing that has come out of this is you cancelling - hope you actually asked for a MAC, rather than cancelled? (If not you need to go back and tell them you changed your mind, and want to stay - when they have reversed the cancellation, then phone them again and ask for a MAC)

Then when the MAC is used by your new ISP, get back to AOL and make sure they have cancelled your account (they should give you a cancellation ref. number at that time)
