Threads now merged, thank you expresso :)
  • Im currently on AOL Gold for £19.99, which I signed up for in April. I dont really want to downgrade to AOL Silver although the £9.99 package plus free router is really tempting.

Just wondered if anyone had negotiated a similar package for AOL Gold? What price are people paying?

If you are in a 12 month contract i dont think you are in a position to haggle anything unfortunately

Well I finally migrated to AOL today from my 1mb Pipex connection. It took some getting it at £9.99 with no contract though and had to call a few times to get confirmation in an email.

Now it has migrated it is connecting at 576kb even though it should be max my line can handle (about 3mb) and I have been at 1mb solid for last 15 months with Pipex.

3 more phone calls later to customer services and tech support who confirmed my line can take 3mb and the have put in request to BT to upgrade it to 3mb though it will take a week. Then it will probably take as long to go back to 1mb silver!

    Simon.

Ps I did not go through quidco as did it on phone and I did not manage a free wireless router either.

    hi
i have been having problems with broadband connection, in the last month i have only been able to use broadband for about 5days, the rest has been on dial up, currently with virgin net but was thinking about switching to aol, i know to get the 9.99 deal i will need to sign up for 12mths but does anyone know if you can cancel the contract sooner if you cant get a decent service, the good thing about virgin is they allow cancellations with 28days notice so i could switch to dial up anytime if i got to the point of saying stuff this and going back to dial up would aol let me do this?
    thanks

If you are migrating to AOL and do not take the free router it is just a 30 day contract.

Someone in this thread did it online via quidco for £45 cashback too but it will be £14.99 that way so you would have to try to negotiate down to £9.99 after your free month. But if you choose the option where you have your own equipment it is a 1 month contract.
