Three days ago I was told that I would have to pay £14.99 pm and would not get a free router. There was apparently no note on screen, so I asked that my next email be put on the record. I emailed the op with the email that confirmed my contract, and have not had a reply since then.
The AOL webmail service is not in operation, and on the 7p pm tech support line the script says they know about the connection problems and thanks for your patience - after 6 mins of that I hung up.
As mentioned by a previous poster they will only email to the AOL email address, so it leaves me out in the cold.
No service will be worth it however cheap if you do not get satisfactory reasonably priced means of contact. I dont think an 0870 number that is queued is satisfactory.
Will my migration have to happen now that BT has been told to migrate me to AOL?
Edit - I was later told by sales that although it shows as £14.99 there is a note to say I have Silver for £9.99, and I need to ring update the arrangement after activation.0 -
There is a national rate number for Tech Support 0117 919 11 00 , ive been using the freephone when asking account questions and pressing 1 when it answers,
If you have a AOL email account and password you can access webmail here > http://email.aol.co.uk/0 -
If anyone does decide to go with AOL it is worth checking your connection speed once the deal has gone through. I signed up for the 1mb £9.99 a month deal but I was given a 512mb connection. I rang the freephone number and pressed 1 and spoke to a customer service representative. After getting transferred to billing I had my connection upgraded after a week or so. If you need to have your connection upgraded I think it is a good idea to find out before the cooling off period elapses.
One other thing to consider with AOL is although the deal is £9.99 for life it is well known that they are in the process of selling off the uk part of their business, how this will affect existing customers (in terms of capping and fair usage) is anyone's guess.0 -

Hmmmmmm... I've just got the £9.99 deal :Tbut the ADSL Guide test shows me at 0.4 though it was 0.9 yesterday
has anyone got a speed upgrade with this deal too?? It just seems awfully slow at the moment
How do you get the speed upgrade??0 -

I did a speed test and it was nowhere near 1mb so I rang them up and asked them what the speed of my connection was. They confirmed that it was only 512mb. I explained that I had signed up for a 1mb connection and told them I would leave unless I got the speed I was promised.
I meant it as well, you can get much higher speeds with Eclipse and it is £9.99 a month for the first three months and £14.99 there after and they have unlimited downloads. Unfortunately they do have a fair usage policy but from what I can gather it doesn't seem to affect users much and I don't think there is any uncertainty about there future ownership.
£9.99 for a 512mb connection with an ISP who has a decidedly uncertain future made the deal much less appealing. If it had remained at that speed I would have cancelled my contract and went with another ISP who could guarantee a faster connection.
AOL upgraded it to 1mb without much hassle (it took a week) so I was happy with that-- at £9.99 it is worth the risk.0 -
How do you measure the speed?0

Thanks DieHard
I actually checked my speed again and it's 0.9 now - it seems faster when the AOL software isn't running. :confused
Seeing as most ISPs now offer "up to 8MB" as standard, I wonder if anyone's got a faster speed from AOL for £9.99 per month  I'm feeling lucky0 -

One poster was on the gold package and her speed was downgraded when she opted for the £9.99 a month deal so I don't think you will get a faster speed than 1MB for £9.99.
Personally I am very happy with what I have now. I knew what speed to expect when I rang up. It only became an issue when I was on 512k.0 -
Checked yesterday and migration is going ahead now after the !!!! up, expected date 16th Aug, they said they will send the equipment once migration has completed i would have thought they would send it straight away ?, anybody got experience on how long it takes to arrive ?0
