i dont know if its related but i heard on other forums that nokia is having quite a few problems with push email and the like so maybe it is related. I know its made me decide I will def go for the BB bold and if 3 wont give it to me on my current contract ill go to o2!

i have downloaded and installed skype on my unbranded nokia e71,
however whenever i typed in my username and password and press the sign in button, it says
    "currently unable to connect",
although all internet connection settings are correct. i have no problems to go to the internet with my phone.
does anyone know why the message "currently unable to connect" appears?
    pls pls help...many many thanks

Hi, has anyone tried to transfer their number to 3 here? I do wonder who has received the £10 credit, does the credit count as a top-up?(So I could get the free stuff with it?)

Yes. I did about 18 months ago. Unlike normal topups, it expires after a few months I recall but you can use it for anything. Just use it before it expires.

Ah, sorry, not sure if it gives you the new free txts etc though

What's 'hot' on 3 at the moment? Mine and the wife's contracts are up in just over a month.
She would like a touch screen phone. They have the Tocco Ultra, but reviews aren't great.
I'm now not that bothered what phone I get as the monthly cost is more important to me. I don't require large amounts of minutes and texts. The 300 package I am on at the moment is enough but I'd like to pay under £20 if possible.
I would actually like internet access rather than lots of minutes and texts, but 3 doesn't seem to be offering anything in the way of enticements on mobile phones and internet.
Obviosly, I want the very best I can get for both of us, for as little as possible!
We've been with 3 since they started up so I'm looking for something a little bit special.

I was also on the 300 minute deal. Call and ask for a PAC code. You'll then get up to 90 minutes or more of hassle from the customer services operator trying to get you to stay. Try to say as little as possible to them as they will take every opportunity to extend the conversation and avoid giving the code.

At this stage they typically offer a new phone but on more expensive line rental (£17/month) with £100 or £200 worth of comet vouchers. Persist in asking for your PAC code (you could say a relative, child or friend has moved to O2 and you want to be on same network for their unlimited o2 to o2 call deal) eventually they'll give you the code with dire warnings that the deals they've just offered are a one time thing and will disappear as soon as you have your PAC. That may be true but what they're not saying is much better deals are available once you have the code....

Once you have your PAC wait a couple of days and you'll get a call from a different department offering their real retentions deals.

They may open with an offer of £9.74/month for 18 months to stay on Mix&Match 300, plus a new phone. That deal seems to be their standard opening offer to retain people on M&M 300 - don't jump at it, keep haggling. Whether they're prepared to offer better deals may depend on your previous average monthly spend though.

I was offered a choice of their top phones (E71, C905 etc) with Mix&Match 500 for £8/month (i.e £10 loyalty discount) after saying I'm not that bothered about new phone but would like cheaper rental. I didn't think to ask for a free internet add-on but try - it might be possible.

If you don't want the hassle of dealing with 3 customer "service", it may be worth logging in to the My3 website and clicking the upgrade button to see what if offers, some people have reported quite tempting deals via that route.

That's amazing Bob, thanks for the info!
I usually hate upgrading and all the hassle, but I might enjoy this one!
I'll let you know how I get on.

I've just accepted the £9.74 per month for 300 M&M plus new E71 plus 1gb internet access. 18 month contract. Not much haggling and a very helpful CS person. Perhaps I should have tried harder but it seems an excellent deal to me. (I have a feeling the monthly charge is for life but I'm not sure and haven't got the new contract yet.

I would take that if it were offered to me tonight. The 1GB internet access would swing it for me.

I got the 300 M&M, unlimited internet E71 deal, but at just under £15 pm.
They said the £9.74 was with a different phone and wouldn't budge. Happy enough though. So, does anyone know what software I need to get 'proper' SatNav on the E71?

What do you mean by 'proper satnav'? Nokia Maps comes on the E71 with voice guidance for three months. There is a free satnav program about but I can't remember the name just now. I didn't rate it at all though.
