It is precisely because Royal Mail lost a recorded delivery letter of mine I don't bother.

I take my chances with the normal delivery and so far, never had a problem with CNM.

After my initial recoil in horror at that, it got me thinking - as CNM emails you to confirm receipt, you always have a chance for a second go if you don't receive one. This is assuming you can get another copy of the bill from your provider, which may cost money but will be a lot cheaper than losing this and every subsequent cashback payment. (You could always tell your provider you didn't get the first bill...)

I'd definitely send the second one recorded though - it's no more likely to get lost than a standard letter, and CNM can't pretend they didn't receive it if they're approaching financial melt-down.

  • Well it has been a while since I last posted and a few things have happend, but at the moment I am still happy with coolnewmobile and carphone wearhouse.

To start with the cashbacks are taking longer to come through.
Sent my last one in on 8th/9th Jan, they received it on the 10th (tracked royal mail, no probs.) Got email a week later to say putting it on the system. Got email 31st Jan to say all processed and cheque will be in the post in the next few days.

Didn't realise that really ment next few weeks. it still hasn't arrived today so started to mildly panic thinking lost in post etc. Rang them this am to check what's going on and they only posted it mid last week.

That will arrive with the bill that is due to be sent in this month.

Some of you may remember I had a problem with the Bluetooth headset that was free with my phone. It is the CPWPHFBTBLACK.
The one advertised in the Feb 2007 Carphone Warehouse Buyer's Guide as the cheapest ever bluetooth headset (black and white). It is crap.
CW replaced the headset on 25/10/2006 for a new one. Since then I have used it no more than 5 times and the buttons have broken again!
Went in today and said what had happened and asked if I paid the difference would they upgrade me. Lady said no problem and gave me the Motorola H350 (buttons loads better) and I paid the grand total of 80p. I haven't used it yet and hope it lasts. But it has a new 1year warranty so fingers crossed.

Also I have a samsung D500 which has been a good phone but recently when I plug in the headset that samsung package the phone with or the speaker attachment the phone won't recognise it.
Took that in to CW today and they are sending it off to be fixed under the manufacturers warranty.

I thought it was going to be a nightmare to get it sorted out but the CW staff could not have been any more helpful or friendly.

I only have 2 more claims to go as my contract ends at the end of april, and even though it hasn't been plain sailing with equipment, and the cash back is slower now I think I would do it again.

But through QUIDCO this time and not mutual points.

Will update you when I get my phone back and how next claim goes.
  • I got my phone in September, cancelled the insurance in November and got written confirmation etc. Today I got a letter saying that direct debit for my phone insurance has been set up, payment going out on 28th Dec and the 28th of each month after that. I've checked my statements and I haven't paid anything, so I'm guessing this letter was sent in error. Has the same happened to anyone else?

IMHO, I think this is a big risk, and wouldnt advise anyone to follow this....it specifically says in the TandC's that you should send in your claims by Recorded delivery.

Royal mail can't lose as many recorded deliveries, as they do non-recorded.

I was getting worried about the delay in my latest cashback (the previous two having arrived not too bad) but it seems as though hopefully they are just slow assuming its not just the old 'cheque is in the post' scam. I have emailed CNM but no response yet. What number did you call, was it the 0870 ones?

    For others who are after the dates for submitting claims my position is as follows;
CNM connected me to T-mobile 3/5/07

1st Cashback after connected 120 days
Sent bill dated 4th September on 8th (i.e fifth bill, I also had to send the first bill as I had my old number ported) and got email on 26th saying 'Thank you for remitting your cash back claim paperwork. It has been submitted on to our system today and will be processed accordingly. We will reply by post within 28 days of receipt.' I didn't receive any subsequent email saying cheque in the post?
    Cheque arrived around 4th Oct

2nd Cashback after connected 180 days
Sent bill dated 4th November on 8th and got email on 15th saying as above
    Cheque arrived around 20th Dec

3rd Cashback after connected 240 days
Sent bill dated 4th January on 8th and got email on 18th saying as above
    Cheque still not arrived!!

My 4th cashback claim will go with the March bill due any day.

Assuming the cashback does arrive then I have no real complaints and may use them again although they are clearly not always complying with their contract to pay the cashback within 28 days of receipt of a valid claim.

I use recorded delivery to avoid any conflict with their conditions and its not that expensive.

I also got the 3 months free insurance which I had refused (!) so just wrote to them after 2 months cancelling it and also cancelled the direct debit.

There is no requirement to use recorded delivery; it just makes it less easy for them to claim they haven't received the forms.

The silps that the post office gave me to keep say Royal Mail recorded 1st or 2nd class. then under that signed for in yellow writing. the slips are orange.

says standard postal service with signature and barcode scanning on delivery.

    hope that helps.

Yes I used the 08700429066 number. I know it is expensive but I have had the run around on some of the other numbers. when you ring they give you a options menu but cant remember which number it was. the message will say press ... to track your cash back claim, or words to the effect of.

My cash back isn't here today but ironicly my orange bill is so I will have to send it in tonight.

I will let you know when mine arives
