So with 3 out of 5 claims settled and just about to send my 4th off I realise that I shall soon be at the end of my contract and need a new phone. so what next?

Presumably I tell o2 that I don't want to continue my contract and order a new phone through coolnewmobile.

Does this mean I should avoid O2 and choose another network? Or will they not notice/care if i end one contact and begin another in the same week?

    Any ideas anyone.
Sorry if this has already been covered it's a long thread.

also, has everyone who sent in their claims via Recorded Delivery been able to track it via RoyalMail's website? I've got another claim which I'd sent in on 29 Jan and it's still untrackable....I thought it might be due to the PO Box address which CNM uses, but the staff over at claims dept says that they sign for all their mail?!

You will see from my post above (248) that I posted the claim on 19th December. The Royal Mail's tracking service confirmed that the item was delivered (ie to Mobile Affiliates) on 21st December....although it also said that the electronic Proof of Delivery was not available for this item.....which I think means a copy of the signed receipt. I imagine the response from CNM (3rd Jan by e-mail) was delayed because of the Xmas and New Year hols!
  • thanks fbrj....anyone else? my recorded delivery was sent 5 working days ago, but its still not signed...what are the chances that my claim never reached them?

To cancel your current contract, you need to write to o2 during month 11 so that you have given the 30 days notice to end the current contract.

Just to point out that if you go through CNM for another phone you can't port onto o2 or Vodafone. You can port onto the o2 network if you go through Phonebox Direct (PBD) (owned by the same company), but not Vodafone. This means that if you want to keep your existing number on the new o2 contract, then it's better to go through PBD (although you will receive £20 less from Quidco), otherwise you will have to get a new number (going through CNM) if you want to go on the o2 network.

I take it you want to keep your exsting number? If you do, you can add in your letter that you wish to transfer your number to a PAYG sim card at the end of the minimum term.

I presume you want to stay on the o2 network? If you do:
    1. During month 11 you can request a PAC from o2 by ringing up CS.
    2. Register your existing number on another network (Orange, T-mobile etc... - you can free sims for different networks from the Freebies board on here).
    3. Once you are registered on the new network (temporarily), ring up CS and request a PAC.
    4. Go through Quidco and order the o2 new contract off (PBD website?)
If you want to use another network, then skip steps 2-4, just remembering Quidco before you order whichever contract you decide upon.

PACs are only valid for 30 days from issue and can be re-issued, although some networks may charge. Also the account from where the number is being transferred from must be active or else you won't be able to port your number.

    Thanks for the advice.

I've never been attached to my number I'm quite happy to change my number most years. I just copied my address book to the new phone and text everyone the new number. It's never been a problem.
  • So whats the verdict on coolnewmobile? I have had NO probs with phoneboxdirect.

Thought I should be fair to coolnewmobile and tell my reasonably positive story.

Ordered a phone from them on 12 month free cashback deal, couple of weeks later saw another one which was a newer model so ordered that too as I thought if I have two cashbacks to do at the same time it's not really much extra hassle.

Second phone had some problems in that it was missing accessories - different people originally claimed that it was because it was refurbished - I pointed out terms and conditions didn't say this - I was passed round a merry go round of phone numbers from one person to another and back again. Eventually I got a really nice lady in the right place who even phoned me back. She apologised, ordered me brand new accessories and got them sent to me and e-mailed to check all way okay.

Have since received my first cashback payments - the paperwork isn't that bad compared to people in the past but is still a bit fiddly.

In six months time having got my referrals, cashback and sold one of the phones on e-bay I hope to come out of it with a small profit. Off to do my next cashback now. I may well use them again at the end of my contract - we'll see who has the best offer!

It sems to be a mixed bag of experiences for everyone using cool new mobile so here's mine, negative so far.I connected on 4th august and sent in bills on 16th january, (the day I received my bill), as the december bill showed me only connected for 118 days and not the 120 days stated on cashback form.Today I got the "your claim has been rejected" letter saying I was a month late submitting and all future cashback is disqualified.I added the days correctly ,I followed the exact instructions and I'm not a happy bunny! So stinker letter has been sent, Trading standards will be contacted if this isn't resolved and if all else fails I will continue to claim back as per cashback forms and take them to small claims at the end of the contract.Hell hath no fury and all that.

  • I have received my first cashback claim through CNM, and everything went smoothly. Slightly delayed by Christmas & New Year, but money is in my account!

I think when you send your cashback claim form and bills, you need to have a cover letter stating your exact assumptions. I have been doing this with various companies over the last three-four years, and had no problems with cashback.

My cover letters include the following:

    I have enclosed the following:

    1. Cashback Claim Form
    2. Most recent bill to show I have been connected for 6 months: dated 5th February, number: xxxxx xxx xxx (details of original number in message header above, and paperwork confirming this was sent at the first redemption claim).

The requirement is that I send the cashback claim form and original monthly bill dated 180 days (6 months) from connection. In this instance this is 5th February 2007 (connection date: 27th July 2006, six calendar months brings that to 27th January 2007, nearest bill would be 5th February 2007).

And then end with a blurb, "I hope you have all the information required, but if not, please do not hesitate to contact me on xxxxx xxx xxx". It always helps.

RUSSETRED: I think you may have calculated incorrectly: If you connected 4th august, 120 days is 2nd December. If you received a bill on 16th Jan, it was probably dated 10th Jan, which means the December bill would have been 10th Dec, so that is after 120 days, so you could (and should) have claimed in December.
