    Afternoon :hello:

Thanks for all the hugs earlier, am feeling a bit less glum now :D Although work is still a mighty pain in the @rse, lots of good things are happening...

Mum hasn't heard any more news about Grandma so it must still look like she's on the mend :j

My singing teacher (who used to sing in the chorus at English National Opera) sorted me out with some cheap tickets for this evening's show :D So I'm off there tonight with two friends. Well, when I say cheap, they were £18 each but they'd normally be about £65  and because I've done so well on freebies so far this year, it'll actually be the first money I've spent there since about October :D

Speaking of which, I was there just last night on free press tickets (seeing a different show) and I 'fessed up to the press office that the website I review for is soon to be relaunched and is currently not in publication (and therefore I have no real "right" to free press tickets). The press guy said because I was such a regular he'd continue to let me have first-night freebies whenever they're available :D

Also, while talking to my singing teacher about tickets for tonight, I booked a singing lesson for next week which will be the only one I'm having this month. So I now know I'm under budget on my lessons this month and I've been able to bump up my savings total a bit more (see below) :D I'm on target with the "not spending my spare £50" plan, too :j and I reckon by the end of the month my savings figure will be up to £9,219 :j :j :j assuming I don't do anything financially daft in the next week and a half. The main boost this month has been my singing earnings - Easter means lots of extras, and I've had £50 already with another £72 to come on the last Sunday of the month :j

    I am such a "savings bore" :o

  • Penny Pincher - that's fab news about your old VP phoning you - it must feel great to feel wanted :D Here's hoping you do get/feel better so you can maybe take him up on his offer (sounds great!!)

DD(7) had her 2nd clarinet lesson today and can play two notes (I had a little tear in my eye) mind you she nearly looked like she was going to pass out from all that blowing :rotfl:

Anyway better dash - the spuds need mashing to go with our chicken casserole - byee for now
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

    Hello folks
Not been around much for the last few days, so hope you're all well & happy. The Easter weekend passed in a blur & then I was straight down to London for an overnight stay last night.

Needless to say because OH was on his own last night nothing has been taken out of the freezer this morning for tea; although in his defence he had put the DW on & put the rubbish out this morning,so 2 out of 3 is not bad (considering it used to be none out of 3 :D). Looks like a chinese takeaway for tea then

The bathroom is still not finished  but hopefully I have now sourced a much more reliable builder to do the work. It's too long & boring to give you all the details, and I refused to get stressed about it.

My good news today is that the plonker who ran into the back of my car earlier this year has finally admitted liability :T. It's only taken 3 months!
Hugs to all & I'm working from home tomorrow, so will be able to pop in a bit more often. Coffee & cake at 10.30 tomorrow anyone?

OH went out last night (10pm) to the local Sainsburys again:rolleyes: he got some excellent bargains again. Large greek yogurt and honey (still 3 days in date) 5p (£1.55), bacon/chicken pasta for himself to eat 10p (£1.80), 4 x Spagbol Taste the Difference 20p each (£3.50 each), 2 x Taste the Difference Chicken Pastas with cheese 20p each (£3.50 each normally),Bag mixed salad 5p (£1.90), 4 Chicken breasts 20p (£3.99), 2 x puff pastry 20p (£1.35 normally each)organic milk 4pt 10p (£1.89). The grand total should have been £1.90 but came to 57p and 2 items had a special offer and gave back some money:confused: Normal price for all these items would have been £34.83:eek: so we saved 34.26.....fabulous!! Milk, ready meals and chicken have been frozen for a later time. Although we dont normally buy ready meals the Taste The Difference Range use better quality ingredients and taste ok and will be perfect for lunches to share bulked out with a spud or salad.

Oh PP you must let me know where that Sainsburys is - I'm off to Bluewater at the weekend, so will defo have to stop off there on the way back. :j

P.S. PM me if you'd rather not say publicly!

    Thanks

none of my local Sainsburys ever reduce things that much even if the date is up that day :(

    hello
its been lovely and sunny most of today!
This morning I potted on plants in the greenhouse(ongoing job and very tedious but worth it).
We had Tuna and baby lettuce sandwiches for lunch.
I cut DS's hair ready for his return to college tomorrow and DD's fringe too.
    Then earthed up potatoes.
    Sausage toad for tea.
Bread in the BM as there'll be sandwiches to make for DS to take tomorrow.
    have a lovely evening

Much is based on timing, Glad.

Ours reduces goods by a better margin than Tesco's or Asda, - best time to get the usual reductions are roughly 10am ish and then again at around 5pm ish, but to get the bargains PP is quoting would only occur in the final hour of the store being open.

To have too many reduced items (and too frequently) would reflect poorly on the department managers (dairy, grocery, butcher, deli) and ultimately the Store Manager, because obviously, the company is losing money - particularly when (as in PP's example), the store ends up paying the customer to take the goods home!! :rotfl: It's happened to me very rarely, and it's great when it does.
Clearly though, you couldn't *rely* on those items on a regular basis because it's very hit and miss and half the time the items are fully of preservatives, E's etc that, personally, I prefer to steer clear of. But you're quids in if it's the fresh goods and you have a freezer and a standby collection of recipes to use them up with :):):)

  • Hi Queenie

I totally agree with you about timing. OH has gone down there sometimes and there has been nothing reduced then a few other occasions he has been very lucky and grabbed what he can:D Not sure what time the Local Petrol station shuts...BargainRzl will know but think it may be 11pm. We dont rely on these and are bonuses to stock up the freezer and to get cheap meals out of.

Dont normally shop in Sainsburys as I find it dearer than Asda where we normally shop, but I do find the quality excellent and their bargains fantastic!
