Grey and foggy here so washing's in the TD, all the housework is done, one small batch of ironing to do later during nap time.
Shepherds pie for tea - the meat was made last week and frozen, just need to peel and mash some spuds later (going to do a mix of normal and sweet potatoes).

I don't make them much these days, but yes, lard or solid beef dripping gives a much better flavour/texture than oil. Even when I made them in a DFF, I would always cook them twice so that you get a soft centre but crisp outside. Rinse the chipped potatoes first (to get rid of the watery starch) then dry in a tea towel before putting them in for their first part of cooking; drain; let the fat heat again then put them in for a final cooking.
To test if fat is hot enough, drop in a piece of bread (small cube of! Not slice) and it should turn golden in about 30 secs. HTH
smokey - thank you, yes, it does too
My double bonus was, now he has all the new monthly mags in, he'd saved the old one's to give to me instead of throwing them out :j :j :j I'd asked last time I was there for a piece of paper so I could jot down some web addies ... as a result, he kept the mags for meSweet!!
Roll on next month  I'm a mag-a-holic and had to curb my urges in that department, so to be given some "hand-me-down-mags" is a real treat.
Last place I worked, the girls used to do a magazine round robin. Each would buy their personal fav each month then they'd all pass them on around the group. Great fun, miss that, so today is a definate, sit on the patio with a mag for coffee break time
Grumpy Chin 11yo has now gone off to school and d10yo is practising his drawing - just shown me a great pic of a cat

I need to spend some time on the net with a room planner program today so I can make the best use of space in my Utility Room. Its very long and narrow, which is a real pain and it has to serve a lot of uses so I'm struggling a bit on how best to lay it out.wish me luck!
Have a good day ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Morning all,
((((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))) to those who need them.
Its raining here in sunny? Leicestershire, so nothing outside today, still struggling with that cushion but should have it finished later this morning hhhhhhhrrraaaaaaaaaayyyy.
Staring to sort clothes etc for our hols..... hid OH's so he can't get them out and wear them again so I have to wash and iron when he wants to take them away.
Turkey for supper tonight, going to do some roasties with cabbage and carrots, will put the meat in sauce and put it through the oven to heat it up........ yummy.
Tesco CC statement came yesterday.... boy did we spend a lot last month, still I have not spent anything else since the statement date, so next month should be a lot less (I hope). have the spending money for our holiday put away, just thinking about filling the car tank, deisel is 97p a litre here and there is a chance it might go higher. I put £20 a month in when we are just at home and we walk as much as we can, but Cornwall will take a tank and a half..........
Right I am off to start the BM and finish that cushion.......

Morning everyone
Am out of my SnowyOwl house and in w*** today...boo hoo!! It's the first day back after the two bank holidays, and it's as dead as a doornail here, hardly anyone in. It's not that I am unsociable, but that is exactly how I like it. Well, I may be slightly unsociable as I like my peace and quiet.
I had intended bringing in my scones and carrot cake to give to my colleagues, but I forgot to take them out of the freezer. These are the things I made for my mother's visit at the weekend, ie the visit she cancelled after I had baked some goodies for her. I'll bring them in tomorrow, otherwise I'll end up eating them myself.
There isn't too much to tell you - didn't get my essay done, so have to knuckle down and finish the first one tonight, then start the second one tomorrow. I am not going to do an academic course next year, just something hobbyish and purely indulgent and with no essays and no exams! I cannot stand the stress of exams with also having a full-time job, not to mention my dippy manager is so awkward about taking the time off it's unbelievable. I told her that if she doesn't sign my leave application then I am still not coming in the days of the exams anyway, and that it's not a negotiable point, and that I would just accept being disciplined if that was the way it was going to go. Grrrr!!!!!!!! She signed it in the end but what stress!
Well, guess I should go do something now that I am here.
Bye all, hope everyone has a happy day.

Morning :hello:
Brain and body did not want to get into gear this morning! It didn't help that when I put the telly on - I normally watch the 7:30am Friends repeat while getting ready for work - Channel 4 (via Freeview) was all out of synch and was saying it was still 7:10 when it was really 7:37and was showing the programme that should have been on at 7:10
so my poor "morning brain" was getting very muddled between that, my bedside clock (which is right) and my VCR clock (which is an hour out, as the arial's hooked up to my digital recorder so the VCR isn't getting the auto time adjustment signal and still thinks it's GMT).
Anyway, worked it all out eventually, got up and dressed and was out in time for my usual train
Am feeling quite down this morning, despite the promising news about my grandma - I just really wish I didn't have to be at work today, with my boss on my back about all the "multi-tasking" she needs me to do today. I feel like I have a huge unachievable mountain of stuff to do and I don't know where to start, so am putting off having to sort it all out by talking to you guys
Although on the plus side (and I do hope nobody from work is reading this) my boss's boss decided to experiment with growing a beard over the BH weekend - and it's made him look very rugged and dishy indeed
Um, I've been having inappropriate thoughts
I need to cheer myself up, so am hoping that one of my "useful people to know" can get some cheapie tickets for me and two friends to a show this evening ( I already saw it once for free, but my friends haven't seen it yet). Admittedly I could do with a night at home to recharge the batteries, but I can do that tomorrow and Friday evenings - at least it's a four day week!
Right, onwards and upwards - better get on with the stuff they pay me for
Hugs to anybody who needs them :grouphug:
