I just moved to O2 broadband yesterday, I am not letting Sky hold me to ransom if I don't take their telephone line. The migrating was painless & no hastle at all. I am getting a faster speed than I was getting with Sky, my package with Sky was mid 8meg & I was getting 6.2meg, the package with O2 is the 8meg for £7.50(less the Quidco so making it £2.50mth) & the few speed tests I have done is 8.6meg. So I am happy at the moment.

I also went through Quidco & got £60 from O2, It has been tracked so I think it will go through ok.

Shirley its only that price if you have a mobile contract with O2, so I guess from that standpoint they are operating a similar business model to Sky.

You don't need a mobile contract a pay & go is enough.

I know it is similar to Sky, but at least I went into it knowing this & if O2 change the terms I will move again. I just did not like the way Sky have acted now that they have a big slice of the market.

Thanks for that, it makes O2 look more attractive, may investigate more in the new year, my old PAYG Orange phone is due for an upgrade.

The only thing I missed in my post was that you have to top up at least £10 every 3mth to get the discount, otherwise it reverts to £12.23. Then as soon as you top up with £10 it goes back to £7.34mth.

I'm currently on a mid package (£5/month) but I've received a letter from Sky that unless I take Sky talk (which I don't want), I need to pay £10 from March 2009 for my broadband.

I called up Sky, and they said since my annual contract is till May 2009, I can't cancel broadband before that time

Are they right? I thought by increasing the price they have changed terms and condition, so I'm allowed to leave even if initial 12 months contract does not expire.
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.
  • You can cancel but must do so within 30 days of receiving letter.

    Terms & conditions:
Sky Broadband is variable and our prices, Products and the Sky Broadband Extras can change, even during your Minimum Term. However, if we reduce the level of service provided by your chosen Product and you reasonably consider that you have been disadvantaged by this you will have a right to move to another Product or end this Contract. You can also end the Contract during your Minimum Term if we increase your Sky Broadband Payment more than once, or by more than 10% or the annual increase in the UK Retail Price Index, whichever is the greater. If you wish to end this Contract in these circumstances, then you need to let us know within one calendar month of notice of the change (Conditions 7(a), 11(c) and 11(d)).

I cancelled( I was out of contract by 1 day) & went to O2. I got my mac code from Sky within 24hrs & was online with O2 within 8 days.

    I found that link

Just in case anyone wants to cancel. I called Sky again and told them about this T&C on their website and now they said I can cancel early :)

It is on top of £18 Sky TV. So total makes £28 (instead of current £22).

If I quit Sky, I shall still get lots of free to air channels via existing Sky box & dish. As I don't watch TV much, I don't really need Sky TV.

O2 gives £12.xx monthly broadband which seems better value for money to me.

just out of curiosity, why dont you want Sky talk if it is free and you get free evening and weekend calls.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
